Manufacturer expects to create 66 jobs with $15 million expansion project

Janesville, WI -- United Alloy Inc. (UAI), a serial production metal fabrication and powder coating company, is expanding its operations in Janesville, a project expected to create up to 66 jobs over the next three years.

The new 100,000-square-foot facility will be located on a 17-acre lot adjacent to the company’s existing building on Kennedy Road. The $15 million project also includes a 7,500-square-foot addition to the current facility and the installation of new equipment at both buildings. The new facility will include an entirely new painting system that would occupy about one-fourth of the building, while the rest of the facility would be use for assembly and loading areas for trucks.

One in 11 Peach State jobs - across all regions - related to Savannah, Brunswick ports

Brunswick, GA -- Georgia's ports support 439,220 full- and part-time jobs across the state, according to a study released by the Selig Center for Economic Growth at UGA's Terry College of Business.
The Georgia Ports Authority board reviewed the study's findings at its meeting Monday. The latest figure is based on Fiscal Year 2017 impacts, and represents an increase of 70,000 jobs (up 19 percent) compared to the previous report covering FY2014. Georgia ports now account for 9 percent of total state employment, or one out of 11 jobs. Personal income derived from port-supported jobs totaled $25 billion statewide in FY2017.

Moncks Corner, SC — Santee Cooper has approved a $3 million loan to the Oconee Economic Alliance (OEA) for a 50,000-square-foot industrial speculative building to help Oconee County attract new businesses and jobs.

The loan was approved through the Santee Cooper Economic Development Loan Program. The spec building will be located within the Golden Corner Commerce Park, which is just two miles off Interstate 85 and just 60 miles from the Greer Inland Port. Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative will distribute electricity to the site.

Operating in its sixth year, Santee Cooper’s Economic Development Loan Program acts as a resource for localities served by Santee Cooper and the state’s electric cooperatives or municipal customers, to help those localities build spec buildings and other infrastructure attracting new industry.

First new crane begins work at Port of Savannah

Ship-to-shore fleet grows to 30 by the end of April; six more to arrive in 2020

Savannah, GA -- The first of Georgia Ports Authority's four new Neo-Panamax cranes came online this week, bringing GPA's operating fleet to 27 - more than any other single terminal in the nation.

"Georgia's ports are dedicated to staying a step ahead of market demand," said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch. "These investments ensure port users can grow their business and supply chain efficiencies in Savannah."

The super-sized crane is tall enough to lift containers 152 feet above the dock. The crane started work before dawn Wednesday on a 13,300 twenty-foot equivalent container unit Hapag Lloyd vessel. Crane operators moved an estimated 2,700 containers on and off the ship during its time at the Port of Savannah.

Stockton, CA — The Port of Stockton announced that 2017 was a record-setting year. Overall cargo volume was up over 21% and the number of vessel calls increased by more than 10%.

“Strengthening our infrastructure will help us meet the needs of continued growth and capacity. We anticipate that even more companies will follow suit and set down roots at the Port of Stockton.”

“In 2017 we grew our cargo business to record levels and our tenant base is at an all-time high,” said Port Director, Richard Aschieris. “Those are remarkable achievements. I’m proud of our team for competing to earn and retain our clients’ business by leveraging our unique operational strengths which help our customers profit and grow.”

Guelph, Ontario, CN — The Conference Board of Canada, a national, independent research organization, has projected economic growth in the Guelph region at 2.2 percent in real gross domestic product (GDP). The Guelph region includes the City of Guelph, and Guelph/Eramosa and Puslinch Townships.

The Winter 2018 Outlook report states that Guelph’s economy has performed strongly in recent years and is expected to continue to grow above the provincial pace for both 2018 and 2019. Guelph’s expected real GDP growth in 2018 is the ninth highest in Canada and is one of only three Ontario cities in the top 10, along with Toronto and Oshawa.

“We expect Guelph to enjoy continued albeit slower growth in the next two years, with GDP advances of 2.2 percent and 2.1 percent in the cards for 2018 and 2019 respectively,” the report states. “Both these figures will slightly exceed the provincial pace [2.0 percent for both years].”

Company investing $33 million in sawmill expansion
Columbia, SC — Charles Ingram Lumber Co., a family-owned sawmill located in Effingham, S.C., is expanding its existing operations. With $33 million of capital investment, the company is expected to create 22 new jobs.
Serving the southeastern U.S. since 1931, Charles Ingram Lumber Co. owns timberland where trees are grown for pulpwood and saw timber. The company also operates a lumber mill, which produces approximately 120 million board feet of Southern Yellow pine annually.

Hartford, CT — Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that Infosys, a global leader in consulting, technology, and next-generation IT services, is planning to establish a technology and innovation hub in Hartford. The $20.6 million project will see the creation of 1,000 good paying, high-tech jobs in the state’s capital city by 2022.

“Today marks yet another landmark day in Connecticut’s economic development efforts at a time when our investments are bringing new life and vigor to our capital city,” Governor Malloy said. “I am thrilled to welcome Infosys to Connecticut and congratulate them on their decision to establish a technology and innovation hub in Hartford. Recycling plant expected to create 200 new jobs
Columbia, SC — Ecomelida, Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Zhangzhou Sanlida Environmental Technology Corporation, announced plans to locate its first North American operations in Orangeburg County. The $52 million investment is projected to create 200 new jobs.
Zhangzhou Sanlida Environmental Technology Corporation is an importer and recycler of waste paper and plastic. Utilizing creative processes to separate pulp, plastic and aluminum from soft drink cartons and other products, the company's recycled plastics are used in foam, cast plastic parts and more.

Record-setting accomplishments, current and future projects highlighted during annual State of the Port Address

Brownsville, TX — A full house of regional stakeholders applauded Port of Brownsville officials during reports of record revenue and tonnage in 2017 at its annual State of the Port Address March 8.

“The state of the Port of Brownsville is strong and getting stronger,” said Brownsville Navigation District Vice Chairman John Reed. “As evidence, I offer two critical measures of success: total operating revenue and tonnage.”

The port’s total operating revenue reached nearly $24 million in unaudited total revenue, exceeding the previous high-water mark of $19.9 million set in 2015 by more than $4 million. On the annual tonnage side of the business, the volume of cargo handled at the port topped 10.3 million short tons, also a new record.

Social media giant to create at least 100 jobs

Stanton Springs, GA — Governor Nathan Deal announced that Facebook will create at least 100 full-time jobs and invest $750 million in a new data center in Stanton Springs over the next five years. New jobs will include positions in engineering and management, as well as opportunities for data center technicians.

“Georgia’s business-friendly climate and world-class technological infrastructure continue to attract innovative companies like Facebook,” said Deal. “It is fitting that the No. 1 company in the world in terms of active users has chosen the No. 1 state for business for this project. We appreciate Facebook’s leadership for recognizing Georgia as a state that serves not only as a major hub for general business, but also as a place where tech firms can be successful in the future. This project represents a significant investment and will create meaningful opportunities for the surrounding community. We welcome Facebook to Georgia and look forward to the growth of this partnership.”

Company creating 15 new jobs in North Charleston

Freeport, TX — Port Freeport recently selected winners of the 18th Annual Logo Drawing Contest for its Take-A-Child Fishing Tournament (TACFT) to be held on May 5th at Freeport Municipal Park. Brazoria County’s youth ages 3-14 are eligible to enter the contest and are invited by fliers distributed to the schools within the area.

The first-place winner of the TACFT Logo Drawing Contest is Isabella Nunez, a first-grade student at O.A Fleming in Freeport. Isabella was awarded a framed print of her drawing and a $100 Visa gift card. Mikalah Hegefeld, an eighth-grade student at Lake Jackson Intermediate, won second place and was presented a $50 Visa gift card and a framed print of her drawing. The third-place winner, Serena Aad, a seventh-grade student from Brazosport Christian School, also received a framed print of her drawing and won a $25 Visa gift card.
