Savannah moves record 4.5M TEUs

Auto volumes near 650,000 units

Savannah, GA -- The Port of Savannah moved a record 4.5 million twenty-foot equivalent container units in the fiscal year that ended June 30, an increase of more than 305,000  TEUs or 7.3 percent.
"Our ports are firing on all cylinders," said Governor Brian Kemp. "This success is a testament to the men and women who work throughout our entire supply chain and make a difference for Georgia and the nation every day. Because of their commitment, our factories, farms and logistics providers are creating opportunity and prosperity in every corner of our state."

Indianapolis, IN -- Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett joined executives from eHealth Inc. (NASDAQ: EHTH), a private online health insurance exchange, as the company announced the establishment of its new Eastern U.S. Technology and Operations Headquarters (HQE) in Indianapolis, which is expected to employ up to 500 Hoosiers by the end of 2023.

“Indiana’s pro-growth economic environment continues to attract innovative companies like eHealth to establish roots in our state,” said Gov. Holcomb. “I’m extremely grateful to see a Hoosier CEO bring business and new career opportunities back to Indiana. Shreveport site will be home to 75 jobs, with retail showroom joining distribution center

Baton Rouge, LA -- Governor John Bel Edwards highlighted the dedication of SuperATV’s new Shreveport manufacturing and distribution center, where the company’s 100,000-square-foot facility also hosts a retail showroom for consumers. In February, SuperATV announced a $4.35 million capital investment in its Shreveport site, where the company will create 75 new direct jobs averaging $40,000 a year, plus benefits. LED estimates another 42 new indirect jobs will result, for a total of 117 new jobs in Caddo Parish and Northwest Louisiana.

“With our reputation as the Sportsman’s Paradise and Shreveport’s strategic location on the I-20 corridor, SuperATV has selected an ideal location in Louisiana for its second manufacturing and distribution facility,” Gov. Edwards said. “Not only will area residents be able to purchase products at SuperATV’s new retail showroom, but residents along the I-20 corridor will also benefit from great employment and career opportunities. We congratulate SuperATV for this big step in their growth.”

Four business expansions statewide, in a variety of industries, involve creation of 395 jobs and $130M in investment:

  • Woman-owned, leading AV and event tech business establishing headquarters in Novi, involves investment of $34M, creation of 81 jobs
  • Supply chain design company expands in Ann Arbor, creates 70 jobs
  • Baking company expands headquarters in Kentwood, generates investment of $85.2M, creates 238 jobs
  • Fabricating company in Baraga wins support to expand, add jobs

Lansing, MI -- Four business projects expected to generate a total investment of $130.6 million and create 395 jobs across Michigan have received support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced.

“These projects will lead to new business growth, stronger communities and more and better jobs for our residents. We’re pleased to work with our local partners and support these investments,” said Jeff Mason, CEO, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the state’s chief marketing and business attraction arm that administers programs and performs due diligence on behalf of the MSF.

Dripping Springs, TX -- Richard’s Rainwater, the country’s first bottled rainwater and sparkling rainwater brand, is ramping up production and expanding distribution within the United States following recent retail placements at The Fresh Market and Whole Foods locations in Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.  

Earlier this year, the Company worked with Lazy Magnolia Brewery in Mississippi to gain regulatory approval for an additional rainwater collection and bottling facility, making Mississippi the fourth state to grant a rainwater public water supply permit.  Richard’s Rainwater is also in discussions with breweries in Austin, Atlanta, Houston and several other locations across the country to equip additional bottling facilities with rainwater collection capabilities. The company plans to collect rainwater in local communities across the country with the goal of moving bottled rainwater the least distance possible.

Expansion Project 
Expansion will significantly increase container capacity
Portsmouth, VA -- Governor Ralph Northam announced the completion of the Port of Virginia’s $320 million expansion at the Virginia International Gateway container terminal. The completion of this project represents a significant milestone as the Port works to increase cargo and container capacity at its two major terminals, with an overall goal of increasing capacity by 40 percent.
“The completion of the VIG expansion enables the Port to move cargo more safely, efficiently, and sustainably than ever before, and cements Virginia’s status as home to a world-class port,” said Governor Northam. “That reputation will help drive economic investment and job creation across the Commonwealth.”

Indianapolis, IN -- TOC Logistics International, a global logistics management organization, announced plans to grow its Indiana-based headquarters, creating up to 87 new jobs in Indianapolis by the end of 2023.

“As the Crossroads of America, our state is a hub for logistics and transportation, supporting an industry with 20 percent more jobs than the national average," said Elaine Bedel, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. "Indiana is well positioned to support companies like TOC Logistics that serve clients across the country, and our pro-growth business climate ensures that they can expand and create new Hoosier jobs with confidence.”

The company, which develops custom solutions that result in efficient global supply chains for a variety of industries, is investing more than $1.8 million to expand its headquarters to meet demand from its growing client base. TOC Logistics currently occupies approximately 6,100 square feet at 2601 Fortune Circle Dr. in Indianapolis and plans to move to 5420 W. Southern Ave., doubling its footprint in a new 12,000-square-foot office this fall. The new space will include high-tech conference technology, new furniture, updated work stations and a variety of amenities.

Madison, WI -- Fresenius Kabi, a global health care company, is establishing a regional distribution center in Pleasant Prairie. The multimillion-dollar investment is expected to create 95 jobs over the next four years.

“Companies have a choice when deciding to expand, and Fresenius Kabi’s choice to establish a regional distribution center in Pleasant Prairie is a testament to Wisconsin’s strong business climate and dedicated workforce,” said Mark R. Hogan, secretary and CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), the state’s lead economic development organization. “This investment will allow Fresenius Kabi to position itself for continued growth and success, as well as bring family-supporting jobs to the region.”

$55 million facility in Detroit, create 625 jobs

  • Dakkota committing to hire Detroiters through Detroit at Work priority list
  • Dakkota to purchase 32-acre site of former Kettering and Rose schools to build 600,000-square-foot manufacturing plant
  • Proposal to go before city council, seek zoning changes to move forward

Detroit, MI -- Mayor Mike Duggan, Andra Rush, CEO and president of Dakkota Integrated Systems, other city officials and community leaders announced a plan to build a $55 million manufacturing facility to supply parts to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). In collaboration with the City of Detroit, Dakkota plans to create 625 jobs at a new 600,000-square-foot plant at the site of the vacant Kettering and Rose schools on Detroit’s east side.

“As soon as we finished the FCA deal, we immediately got to work to bring suppliers to the area. Today, we’re announcing one of the first -- thanks to Andra Rush and Dakkota, which will bring hundreds more jobs to the east side,” said Mayor Mike Duggan. “Even better, Dakkota has agreed to give Detroiters first shot at these jobs, and residents can sign up to prepare for these jobs today through Detroit at Work.”

Roanoke, IN -- Universal Dedicated of Fort Wayne (Universal Dedicated), a full-service provider of customized transportation and logistics solutions, announced plans to expand its Indiana operations, creating up to 130 new jobs in Allen County by the end of 2020.

The company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Universal Logistics, will invest $25 million to expand its footprint, building out approximately 10 acres at Fogwell Parkway in Roanoke. The new site, which will serve as a holding yard and house transportation assets and dispatch operations offices, will allow the company to increase efficiencies in its regional transportation services. Construction and equipment purchases are set to begin early fall 2019 and be complete by the end of the year.

Marine engineering firm to expand at University of New Orleans Research and Technology Park

New Orleans, LA -- Governor John Bel Edwards and Technology Associates President and CEO Anil Raj announced the company will expand its presence at the University of New Orleans with 70 new jobs focused on marine engineering. With the expansion, the firm will add 70 new direct jobs with an average salary of $85,000, plus benefits. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in an additional 93 new indirect jobs, for a total of 163 new jobs in Louisiana’s Southeast Region. Technology Associates also will retain 16 employees.

Technology Associates Inc, or TAI, will relocate to 10,000 square feet of office space in the Advanced Technology Center Building at the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Park. The company will move into the new office immediately, and is expected to be completely moved in by end of July 2019. Hiring for the new positions is currently underway.
