Laird more than doubling operations near Original Equipment Manufacturers in Michigan
Detroit, MI — Global technology leader Laird announces a major expansion and relocation project for its vehicle connectivity research and design center near Detroit, Michigan.
Laird will relocate its engineering, research and design center from Holly, Michigan to a 14.5 acre site in an industrial park in Grand Blanc, Michigan a few miles down the road. A new building at that location will have more than 43,000 square feet with the ability to add an additional 20,000 square feet in the future. This new building doubles the size of Laird’s current, 22,000 sq. ft. facility.
“After our recent acquisition of Germany based Novero, Laird is the leading global provider of end-to-end automotive connectivity services with solutions including antenna coupling and telematics control units as well as smart device integration products such as wireless charging and USB interfaces,” says Steve Brown, Laird’s President of Connected Vehicle Solutions. “With this relocation to a larger facility with state-of-the-art technological capabilities, Laird is poised to maintain this leading position for years to come.”
The project represents a 14.4 million dollar (USD) investment in the local community and is scheduled to open in Q2 of 2017. It will result in the creation initially of at least 20 new jobs once the building opens with the possibility of an additional 40 new positions as the business continues to grow. The increased space also provides room for new technologies and improved interactions with customers.
“Remaining close to our customers in Michigan was a crucial factor in choosing the site for our expansion,” explains Brown. “This new facility will enable Laird to expand its list of services and continue delivering innovative solutions to our customers with the speed to market necessary in the competitive automotive market.”
This will be the fourth recent expansion globally for Laird’s Connected Vehicle Solutions which opened a new facility in Brazil and acquired Germany based automotive electronics supplier Novero earlier this year. In 2014 the company also opened a new manufacturing site in Shanghai China.
