Brownsville, TX — The Port of Brownsville is launching an electronic newsletter on Monday, August 8, 2016, describing the port and maritime industry to interested readers.
The e-newsletter, Port Matters, is designed to give readers inside access to understanding how the port works, its role as a partner with other businesses and its place in the global marketplace.
“Port Matters is a play on words,” explains Brownsville Navigation District Chairman John Wood. “The articles highlight port matters and also explain why the port matters to the local, state and international economy.”
According to a 2012 report* on the port’s economic impact, activity related to the Port of Brownsville is responsible for more than $2 billion to the state of Texas economy. Closer to home, 11,230 direct and indirect jobs are related to port activity and support an additional 10,360 related jobs in the Rio Grande Valley.
“With the recent celebration of the port’s 80th anniversary, we realized just how fascinated people are with what happens at the Port of Brownsville. This e-newsletter is just one step toward finding better ways to connect with the communities and industries we serve,” added Mr. Wood.
The first issue of Port Matters includes articles about the port’s role in the growing wind energy industry in the Rio Grande Valley, the expansion of Maverick Terminals’ storage capabilities, among others.
