SAVANNAH, GA — September 12, 2025 — The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has officially welcomed a major new addition to the state’s logistics infrastructure: a 291,000-square-foot cold storage facility developed by MEDLOG, a global leader in supply chain solutions. Located in Rincon, Georgia, just 18 miles from the Port of Savannah’s Garden City Terminal, the facility significantly expands the region’s refrigerated cargo capacity and positions Coastal Georgia as a premier cold chain gateway for U.S. exports.
The new facility was unveiled during a grand opening ceremony on September 10, attended by customers, government officials, business leaders, and senior executives from MEDLOG and MSC Group.
“We’re proud to welcome MEDLOG’s newest cold chain facility to Savannah,” said Griff Lynch, President and CEO of Georgia Ports. “This strategic investment enhances our region’s capabilities and opens new doors for exporters across the Southeast and Midwest.”
Cold Chain Innovation at Scale
The facility features:
- 42 loading docks
- 20,000 freezer/cooler pallet positions
- Blast freezing capacity of up to 3 million pounds per day—including the largest blast room in the nation
- Rail siding for 18 rail cars, enabling direct access to Midwest markets for frozen beef and pork
In addition to frozen protein exports, the site is equipped to handle fresh produce imports such as citrus, avocados, grapes, and blueberries using advanced refrigeration systems.
“This facility is part of a broader strategy to strengthen supply chains and deliver global competitive advantages to U.S. exporters,” said Giuseppe Prudente, Chairman of MEDLOG. “Together with GPA, we’re building a logistics ecosystem that drives economic growth and resilience.”
Regional Impact
- Jobs Created: 100+
- Economic Impact: $65 million for the state of Georgia
- Total Near-Port Cold Storage Capacity: 2.4 million square feet across 12 facilities
The Port of Savannah supports 3,800 refrigerated containers simultaneously, the most of any U.S. port. USDA, FDA, and Customs inspections are conducted on-site in temperature-controlled environments, reducing handling costs and preserving product integrity.
