The $800 million project is expected to support hundreds of jobs and contribute millions in local tax revenue
Meta will build an $800 million, 715,000-square-foot data center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The state-of-the-art facility will support approximately 100 operational jobs and over 1,000 skilled trade jobs at peak construction.

Gordon. “This announcement is a testament to our business-friendly climate, and our commitment to innovation and developing a resilient workforce. We’re grateful for Meta’s investment and partnership.”

Located on a 960-acre parcel of land in the High Plains Business Park, the project will contribute millions in tax revenue through local property taxes, fees and other indirect revenue streams. Meta will work with Black Hills Energy to add new resources to the grid, including renewables, and the campus will also achieve LEED Gold certification once it is operational.

Cheyenne LEADS, the economic development organization for Cheyenne and Laramie County began assisting Meta in 2019. “After having worked with Meta for over five years, we look forward to officially having them in Cheyenne and the State of Wyoming,” says Cheyenne LEADS CEO Betsey Hale. “Meta will provide quality jobs, great benefits and be a contributing member of the community.”
The new facility will be Meta’s 25th data center in the world and is expected to go online in 2027. Once operational, the Cheyenne Data Center will be optimized for Meta’s AI workloads as part of the highly advanced infrastructure that helps bring Meta’s technologies, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, to life.
“This project demonstrates how economic development is a marathon, not a sprint. Big projects like this take time to come to fruition and require a long-range vision, careful planning, and extensive collaboration,” shares Josh Dorrell, CEO of the Wyoming Business Council. “In this case, partners around the state and locally have been working with the team at Meta for the past five years to bring this opportunity to the finish line in Cheyenne.
