A delegation of Micron Technology, Inc. leaders with representatives of CenterState CEO and Sen. Charles Schumer’s office, visited the Port of Oswego Authority (POA) on Thursday, April 27. Following a brief presentation and discussion on the port’s capabilities, the delegation was lead on a tour of the port complex by Pat McMahon, POA Supervisor of Facilities and Business Development.
“This was a wonderful opportunity for our port staff to show Micron the services and expertise that the Port of Oswego can offer them in handling the materials they will be shipping in for construction of their new Clay facility,” said William Scriber, POA executive director and CEO. “One advantage for them would be to store imported raw materials or equipment at the Port’s Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) and defer the duty. In addition, we are an intermodal facility, so we have truck and rail shipping ability right here, along with tremendous storage capacity, and we’re New York’s only Lake Ontario port.”
Jay Baird, general manager, U.S., of LOGISTEC USA Marine Services said the Port of Oswego is ideal for handling Micron’s needs. “LOGISTEC is a longstanding partner with the port. Together we have years of experience welcoming international shipments for receiving, storing, handling and shipping. The Port of Oswego has acres of laydown space, abundant warehouse space and rail capability.”
