Why: The Port of South Louisiana will be dedicating a new Fire Boat, the M/V Nathan Folse. The state-of-the-art craft has a pumping capacity of 5,000 gpm, carries 300 gallons of firefighting foam using three remote control monitors, video surveillance capabilities, and the latest in radar. M/V Nathan Folse was built by Metal Shark Aluminum Boats of Jeanerette, Louisiana at a cost of $3.5 million, funded by a Port Security Federal Grant. The M/V Nathan Folse joins a fleet of three multi-mission vessels for the Port of South Louisiana.
