Shemar USA Selects Charlotte for $15M Manufacturing Facility

First North American factory will also house the company’s headquarters, technical center and R&D operations, creating approximately 80 jobs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 25, 2026) — Shemar USA has selected Charlotte for its first North American manufacturing facility. The $15 million project is expected to create approximately 80 jobs as operations ramp up, with manufacturing scheduled to begin in early 2027.

Shemar USA, the North American operation of Shemar Electric, makes composite insulation products for electric power systems. Its Charlotte facility will produce transmission and substation insulators and serve as the company’s North American headquarters, technical center and research and development hub.

Charlotte Facility to Serve U.S. Utility Customers

The investment will bring manufacturing, application engineering, technical support, sales, warehousing and R&D together at one U.S. location. Shemar USA says domestic production will help it shorten lead times, develop customized products and provide additional supply options for utilities and original equipment manufacturers.

The company reports that more than 230,000 of its composite insulators are installed in U.S. substations. Shemar USA also reports no aging-related failures among those installations over a 20-year period.

The company’s manufacturing network serving North America will include facilities in Charlotte and Vietnam. Shemar also plans to open a European manufacturing facility in Romania in 2028.

Project Expected to Create 80 Jobs

The Charlotte operation is expected to create approximately 80 positions across manufacturing, engineering, technical support, sales, warehousing and research and development. Shemar USA is working with regional economic development and workforce organizations on recruitment and training.

The project expands Charlotte’s advanced manufacturing base and adds domestic production capacity for components used in electric transmission and substations. It also places Shemar USA’s technical teams closer to North American customers as utilities invest in grid capacity and reliability.
