Hendrick Health, a long-standing healthcare system in Abilene, will expand their back office and warehouse operation in the company’s new location at the Mall of Abilene. Hendrick Health’s partnership with the Development Corporation of Abilene (DCOA) marks its second investment back into Abilene since its previous expansion in 2021.
Thursday morning, the DCOA presented “Project Saldo” to the Abilene City Council. The City Council’s ratification of the DCOA Board of Directors’ approval of the $909,500 incentive package enabled the DCOA to enter into negotiations for a final agreement with Hendrick Health.
“Our existing businesses are the backbone of our community, and we are proud to partner with Hendrick Health as their operations continue to expand,” said Misty Mayo, President and Chief Executive Officer of the DCOA. “The DCOA is committed to building long-term partnerships with local existing companies, as growing Abilene’s existing businesses remains one of our top priorities.”
Hendrick Health’s expansion project is expected to retain 391 jobs, with an average salary of more than $45,000, and create 151 jobs, with an average salary of more than $44,000.
“This is one of many examples of how Abilene invests back into its community. We’re proud Hendrick Health continues to invest and grow locally,” said Mayor Anthony Williams.
Over the next 10-years, the $9.095 million project is estimated to have a $324 million direct and indirect total projected economic impact to Abilene.
“We are honored that a company that has been a part of our community since 1924 decided to expand and invest in Abilene. This showcases how the DCOA successfully builds long-term company partnerships with companies who choose to call Abilene home.” said Sam Vinson, DCOA Board Chair.
The project enables the company to complete the planned phase two expansion, creating additional jobs for the citizens of Abilene and solidify Hendrick Health as a regional hospital system.
“Our commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services to our patients is unwavering, and our partnership with the Development Corporation of Abilene to expand our back office and warehouse operation is another step in this direction,” said Brad Holland, President and CEO of Hendrick Health System. “With the addition of this new location at the Mall of Abilene, we will be better equipped to serve our patients and ensure they have access to the care they need, when they need it.”
The project taps into Abilene’s skilled labor force in the back office and professional service industry. With four universities, a technical college, community college, and state-of-the-art training facilities for high school and college students, the community boasts the necessary education to support future needs. In addition to powerful professionals, the community has robust infrastructure and a strategic location in the south-central United States that secures Abilene as the premier location for back office and professional services.
