Caldwell, ID — American Food Equipment Company (AMFEC), a food-processing equipment manufacturer, breaks ground Monday, April 25 in Caldwell on its new manufacturing facility. The California company plans to bring close to 90 new jobs with total wages over $4 million annually to the Valley as part of its national expansion.
"AMFEC outgrew the existing Hayward, California location; and that location was landlocked preventing expansion of the current facility. As we looked beyond our California home for a location to support our growth, the passionate recruitment and support from Idaho Commerce and the communities of Nampa and Caldwell made this Valley an excellent choice," said Darrell "Gus" Gustaveson of American Food Equipment Company. "The work ethic and availability of labor in this market stood out, along with the Workforce Development Training dollars to help us bring that workforce up to speed for our specific manufacturing needs. "
The collaborative effort to bring AMFEC to Caldwell included the City, Caldwell Economic Development, Caldwell Urban Renewal Agency, City of Nampa, Canyon County Commissioners, Boise Valley Economic Partnership, and Idaho Departments of Commerce and Labor.
Over the next nine years, the company expects to hire 89 employees at an average salary of $44,800, more than $13,000 over the Canyon County average. AMFEC was approved for a Tax Reimbursement Incentive and Workforce Development Training dollars from the state.
"Caldwell has the industrial and manufacturing infrastructure, along with the experienced and dedicated workforce, to make expansions for companies like American Food Equipment possible," said Caldwell Mayor Garret Nancolas. "I'm proud of the efforts of all of our partners that helped recruit this new high-wage employer to our community."
AMFEC plans to invest $7.7 million in building a 61,000 square foot manufacturing facility and 6,400 square foot office on 10 acres in the Sky Ranch Business Center. That plant is expected to be online by late fall 2016.
