The Central Alabama Redevelopment Alliance (CARA) has officially launched its Nonprofit Accelerator, a bold new initiative designed to build the capacity of Birmingham’s grassroots and emerging nonprofit organizations. Applications officially opened on June 15, 2025, and interested organizations can apply now at www.CaraNow.org.
This high-impact program will provide selected nonprofit leaders with targeted support across board development, fundraising strategies, program design, and operational systems. The accelerator was built to address a clear need: helping small and midsize nonprofits move from passion to sustainable impact.
“We believe nonprofits are economic engines and anchors of hope in our communities,” said Frank Woodson, CARA Co-Founder and Board Chair. “This Accelerator is not just about growing organizations—it’s about expanding the reach of those who serve on the front lines of change. CARA is honored to walk alongside them.”
The Accelerator will focus initially on nonprofits operating in Birmingham City Council Districts 4 and 5, where leaders have pushed for solutions that go beyond grants and toward long-term organizational sustainability.
City Councilor Daryl O’Quinn (District 5) shared, “We have incredible nonprofit leaders doing the hard work day in and day out. What they need is investment in their infrastructure—coaching, capital, and connections. I’m proud to support an initiative that builds lasting capacity, not just temporary relief.”
City Councilor J.T. Moore (District 4) added, “Our community is filled with visionaries—people solving real problems with limited resources. The Nonprofit Accelerator is about putting real tools in their hands so they can grow, lead, and transform lives at scale.”
The Accelerator will offer workshops, technical assistance, and strategic mentorship over a 12-week period. Selected organizations will gain access to CARA’s regional network of funders, business experts, and community leaders.
Interested nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply immediately. Applications are live now at www.CaraNow.org.
