FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (Mar. 11, 2026) — Broadline food distributor Cheney Brothers is expanding its distribution operations in Florence County with a $42.5 million investment expected to create 85 new jobs, reinforcing the region’s role as a growing logistics and food distribution hub in the Southeast.
Headquartered in Florida, Cheney Brothers provides a wide range of products and services to foodservice customers nationwide, including meat and seafood, dairy, frozen foods and dry grocery items, as well as foodservice equipment and kitchen design solutions.
The company is expanding its existing distribution facility at 2491 Florence Harllee Boulevard in Florence, which first broke ground in 2023. Operations at the site are already underway, with the new investment supporting continued capacity growth and enhanced distribution capabilities.
Company leadership said the expansion reflects confidence in South Carolina’s logistics advantages and workforce availability.
“We have been greatly impressed by South Carolina’s business environment and look forward to continuing to grow our distribution network in the state,” said Byron Russell, CEO of Cheney Brothers.
State and local economic development officials noted that the project strengthens Florence County’s industrial base while creating new employment opportunities for the region.
The project received performance-based job development incentives, along with infrastructure support to assist with site preparation and building construction.
Once fully implemented, the expansion is expected to enhance regional food distribution capacity while supporting supply-chain operations across the Southeast.
Cheney Brothers is one of the largest independent broadline food distributors in the United States, serving restaurants, hospitality providers and institutional customers across multiple markets.
