Advanced materials company will combine AI, robotics, manufacturing and testing at a new northern New Mexico laboratory.
NAMBÉ PUEBLO, N.M. (October 16, 2026) — Discovery 2 Scale (D2S), an advanced materials company founded by longtime Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist Dr. Saryu Fensin, will establish its headquarters and laboratory at Nambé Pueblo, creating more than 80 high-paying jobs.
The facility will employ scientists, technicians and other highly skilled workers while expanding New Mexico’s capacity to turn materials research into commercial manufacturing applications.
Supported by $500,000 in Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) funding from Economic Development New Mexico, D2S will lease and improve approximately 6,500 square feet of laboratory and office space.
AI and Robotics to Accelerate Materials Manufacturing
Discovery 2 Scale is developing a platform that integrates artificial intelligence, robotics, manufacturing and testing to help move advanced materials from discovery to production.
Potential applications include lighter military armor and radiation-resistant materials for fusion energy. By bringing these capabilities together, the company aims to address the challenges of validating new materials and determining how to manufacture them at scale.
“Discovering a new material is not the hard part anymore — the hard part is proving it works and figuring out how to make it at scale,” said Fensin, founder and CEO of Discovery 2 Scale. “That is the gap we built D2S to close — we are putting AI, robotics, manufacturing and testing together under one roof because discovery alone doesn’t put a material on an aircraft, in a ship or into a manufacturing line.”
New Mexico Investment Supports Technology Commercialization
Establishing D2S’s headquarters in New Mexico is expected to bring more federally funded work into the state’s private sector while strengthening its advanced manufacturing capabilities.
U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich highlighted the role of New Mexico’s national laboratories in national security and manufacturing technology development, expressing support for efforts to commercialize those advances within the state.
New Mexico Economic Development Secretary Rob Black said the project builds on the state’s history of innovation by creating private-sector opportunities tied to locally developed technology.
The LEDA funding will support the company’s facility improvements and help establish a base for continued growth.
Nambé Pueblo Partnership Expands Economic Opportunities
The project will also strengthen connections among tribal communities, state economic development partners, national laboratories and technology businesses.
Randy Vigil, president of Nambé Pueblo Development Corporation, said collaboration, investment and technical workforce development can help tribal communities participate in New Mexico’s innovation economy.
The headquarters and laboratory will support efforts to build a more diversified and resilient economy while creating career opportunities in science, technology and advanced manufacturing.
Chad Matheson, president and CEO of Albuquerque Regional Alliance (AREA), said D2S provides a bridge between locally developed innovation and commercial production, helping retain expertise, investment and economic opportunity in New Mexico.
