DARLINGTON, S.C. (September 2025) – Georgia-Pacific and its Dixie® Darlington facility announced plans to construct a 200,000-square-foot warehouse and trailer yard, representing a $25 million investment to enhance operations, integrate advanced technologies, and improve customer service.
The project will support approximately 35 new jobs, to be operated by a third-party partner working alongside the Dixie® Darlington team. This new investment follows a $180 million facility expansion completed earlier, which introduced state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and positioned the Darlington facility as a premier producer of Dixie® plates and bowls.
“This is an exciting next step in the transformation of our operations here in Darlington, highlighting our commitment to employees, customers, and community,” said Demetrius Wright, Plant Director for the Darlington facility. “We thank our employees for helping us earn this investment, and our community leaders for their continued support.”
Local Leaders Welcome Expansion
Local officials applauded Georgia-Pacific’s ongoing commitment to Darlington:
- Bobby Hudson, Darlington County Council Chairman: “Georgia-Pacific’s continuous investment is a testimony to an existing industry thriving in Darlington County. We are thrilled to see this growth and proud to partner alongside them.”
- Curtis Boyd, Mayor of Darlington: “The City of Darlington is excited about Georgia-Pacific’s expansion. We’re proud they continue to call Darlington home, and as city leadership, we stand ready to support their ongoing growth and success.”
Economic & Operational Impact
The warehouse and trailer yard project will begin construction immediately, replacing two unoccupied buildings on-site, and is expected to be fully operational in 2026.
The Dixie® Darlington plant remains a cornerstone of the regional economy, employing more than 450 people directly and supporting an additional 1,163 indirect jobs across the community. Its products — the iconic Dixie® plates and bowls — serve households, businesses, and institutions nationwide.
“By combining innovation with investment, the Darlington facility continues to strengthen its role as both an employer of choice and an anchor for local economic growth,” said Georgia-Pacific leaders.
