Harbor Freight, a retailer specializing in tools and equipment, is expanding its retail presence with a new location in Waveland. The new retailer is estimated to open later this month at 344 Highway 90, next to Dirt Cheap in the Choctaw Plaza Shopping Center.
Construction began in early 2024 and has moved quickly. When passing down Highway 90, the signage can be seen in bright red and blue just behind Walgreens.
Mayor Jay Trapani remarks on the newest addition along Highway 90,” I am delighted to welcome Harbor Freight to our community. The opening of the new store marks an exciting addition to our local business landscape. The Hwy 90 and Hwy 603 intersection is the most traveled intersection of Hancock County. The addition of Harbor Freight at this location increases the attractiveness of this area to all shoppers. This investment by Harbor Freight not only creates jobs for our residents but also provides convenient access to quality tools and equipment for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Harbor Freight as they contribute to the continued growth and development of our community.”
The introduction of this new retailer is generating employment opportunities in the local area. Presently, Harbor Freight’s website is promoting three positions, both seasonal and permanent roles. Harbor Freight was first introduced to the Hancock County market by Retail Strategies. Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission began their partnership with Retail Strategies in January 2023 to identify and recruit new businesses to the Highway 90 corridor from Bay St. Louis to Waveland and Diamondhead.
Lyndsey Bailey, portfolio director at Retail Strategies commented on this exciting addition to the Highway 90 corridor, “We’ve been partnered with Hancock County for a little over a year, and Harbor Freight was among the initial retailers we contacted. We knew there was a gap in the market for hardware and home improvement stores, and Harbor Freight had announced expansion plans.
Several communities were vying for a new store and the site we presented in Waveland was ideal. We are thrilled to be a part of bringing this retailer to the market, marking the beginning of further development that will come because of the area’s progressive, forward-thinking leadership.”
According to their website, hours of operations will be 7 days a week, Mondays through Saturdays from 8 am to 8 pm and on Sundays from 9 am to 6 pm with an opening date set for April 2024.
