AI healthcare company will create more than 30 additional high-skilled jobs and expand clinical technology operations in Ontario
TORONTO, Ontario — Australian healthcare technology company Heidi plans to invest $25.4 million to establish its North American headquarters in Toronto, strengthening Ontario’s position in artificial intelligence, health technology and clinical innovation.
The Melbourne-based company has already hired 17 employees for the new Toronto office and expects to create more than 30 additional high-skilled jobs in the coming years.
The headquarters will serve as the base for Heidi’s North American expansion while supporting research and development, product innovation and strategic partnerships across Canada and the United States.
Toronto Headquarters to Lead North American Growth
Heidi develops AI-powered tools designed to support clinical documentation, workflow management and other administrative functions for healthcare providers.
From Toronto, the company will lead its North American market strategy while continuing to develop products tailored to healthcare systems across the region.
“Our decision to anchor our North American operations in Toronto is a testament to the city’s status as a global leader in artificial intelligence and health-tech,” said Jessie Young, president of North America at Heidi.
Young said the company’s local presence will help ensure its AI Care Partner reflects Canadian clinical requirements and regulatory standards.
Heidi Expands AI Healthcare Platform in Canada
Canada has become Heidi’s second-largest global market and its fastest-growing, according to the company.
Heidi said its AI Care Partner has supported approximately 11 million clinical hours in Canada since launch.
The platform is designed to streamline clinical workflows, reduce administrative burden and allow healthcare professionals to spend more time focused on patient care.
“Establishing our North American headquarters in Toronto is a pivotal milestone in our mission to double healthcare’s capacity without dehumanizing it,” said Dr. Thomas Kelly, CEO and co-founder of Heidi.
“Ontario’s AI talent and its world-class network of research hospitals and academic institutions make it the ideal environment for Heidi to innovate and scale.”
Investment Strengthens Ontario AI and Health-Tech Ecosystem
Heidi’s expansion adds another international technology company to Ontario’s growing artificial intelligence and life sciences ecosystem.
The province offers access to a large STEM workforce, academic institutions, research hospitals and established AI organizations, factors that have helped Toronto become a major center for healthcare technology development.
“By anchoring their North American headquarters in Toronto, Heidi will further strengthen Ontario’s AI leadership,” said Vic Fedeli, Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.
Invest Ontario is supporting the company through strategic advisory services, labor market information and connections across Ontario’s healthcare, research and innovation networks.
“Heidi’s decision reflects Ontario’s leadership in AI and the collaborative ecosystem that enables innovators to grow and deliver meaningful impact,” said Khawar Nasim, CEO of Invest Ontario.
Partnerships Support Clinical AI Adoption
Heidi is also building partnerships with organizations across Ontario’s healthcare and innovation sectors.
The company is working with organizations including the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario and collaborating with the Vector Institute on AI research.
Provincial partners including Supply Ontario and OntarioMD are also supporting efforts aimed at expanding adoption of Heidi’s platform in clinical settings.
The technology is already being integrated into healthcare environments that include Halton Healthcare and multiple Ontario Health Teams.
Toronto Investment Adds Momentum to Healthcare Innovation Sector
Heidi’s Toronto headquarters will provide a base for continued growth in one of North America’s largest healthcare and technology markets.
The company says its platform currently supports more than 2.7 million patient visits each week, operates in 110 languages and is used across 190 countries.
With a $25.4 million planned investment, additional high-skilled employment and expanded partnerships across Ontario’s healthcare ecosystem, Heidi’s new headquarters adds to Toronto’s growing role as a center for clinical AI and digital health innovation.
