DES MOINES, IA (October 17, 2025) – The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Board announced approvals for two projects that will strengthen local economies and enhance community amenities across the state — an $8 million facility expansion by American Packaging Corporation in Story City and a new splash pad development in the City of Tabor.
American Packaging Corporation Expands in Story City
Founded in 1902, American Packaging Corporation (APC) manufactures custom packaging solutions for the food, beverage, healthcare, pet care, home care, and consumer goods industries.
The company plans to construct a 20,000-square-foot addition to its Story City facility and purchase two large-format bag machines with ancillary equipment to support increased production. The nearly $8 million investment is expected to create 25 new jobs, including 13 positions incented at $33.67 per hour through IEDA’s High Quality Jobs (HQJ) program.
Community Attraction and Tourism Grant Awarded to Tabor
The City of Tabor will receive a $90,000 Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant to construct a new splash pad in the city park. The project includes a walkway connecting the feature to nearby sports courts and fields, enhancing accessibility and increasing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. The total project cost is $326,848.
The CAT program supports construction of recreational, cultural, educational, or entertainment facilities that enhance Iowa’s quality of life. Award recommendations are made by the CAT Review Committee to the IEDA Board for final approval.
