Creating 200 New Jobs in the Lehigh Valley
Allentown, PA – In a major boost to Pennsylvania’s life sciences and manufacturing sectors, global medical device leader B. Braun has announced a $20 million investment to expand and modernize its manufacturing facility in the Lehigh Valley. The expansion will create 200 new full-time jobs over the next three years and retain 1,704 existing positions, reinforcing the region’s reputation as a hub for innovation and advanced manufacturing.
Governor Josh Shapiro joined B. Braun executives and local leaders to celebrate the announcement, highlighting the Commonwealth’s commitment to supporting high-impact economic development projects. The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) is backing the initiative with $1.5 million in state funding, including a $1 million Pennsylvania First grant and a $500,000 WEDnetPA grant for workforce training.
“Pennsylvania is a national leader in biotech and life sciences thanks to our strategic location, world-class research infrastructure, and skilled workforce,” said Governor Shapiro. “B. Braun’s continued investment in the Lehigh Valley is a testament to the strength of our economy and the opportunities we offer.”
The expansion will upgrade production equipment at B. Braun’s 710,000-square-foot facility located at 901 Marcon Boulevard in Hanover Township, near Allentown. These enhancements will support the growing demand for infusion therapy products, including IV therapy, pharmacy admixture, and compounding operations.
B. Braun, which manufactures over 2,400 medical devices and related products in Lehigh County, also maintains its U.S. headquarters in Bethlehem, PA. As part of the expansion, the company will launch a new workforce training center at the Allentown site to centralize skills development for both new and existing employees.
“We are proud to continue growing our manufacturing operations in the Lehigh Valley,” said Rob Albert, CEO of B. Braun of America. “Pennsylvania offers the skilled workforce, high-quality suppliers, and business environment we need to deliver life-saving medical devices to healthcare providers nationwide.”
The Lehigh Valley is home to more than 170 life sciences businesses, employing over 6,000 people across manufacturing facilities, research labs, offices, and distribution centers. Companies like Apozeal Pharmaceuticals, Adare Pharma Solutions, and GSK have also expanded operations in the region, contributing to Pennsylvania’s growing reputation as a life sciences powerhouse.
“B. Braun is a cornerstone of the Lehigh Valley’s manufacturing and life sciences economy,” said Don Cunningham, President & CEO of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation. “This expansion reflects the region’s ongoing renaissance and the strong public-private partnerships driving innovation and growth.”
With an annual manufacturing output of $9 billion, the Lehigh Valley accounts for 16% of the region’s $55.7 billion GDP, outpacing the national average of 12%. This latest investment by B. Braun further solidifies Pennsylvania’s position as a leader in advanced manufacturing and life sciences innovation.
