LINCOLN, NE (October 22, 2025) — Known as the Beef State, Nebraska is leading the way in agricultural technology, combining tradition with innovation to boost beef production and create new high-tech career opportunities.
With over six million cattle—three times the state’s human population—Nebraska is America’s top beef exporter, exceeding $2 billion in exports in 2024. To meet rising global demand, a new generation of ag tech startups is using science and data to enhance livestock health, improve efficiency, and support local producers.
Bullseye GX, a Lincoln-based startup, is pioneering genetic testing solutions that help ranchers identify disease risks and make smarter breeding decisions. Using small tissue samples collected during regular herd management, Bullseye GX provides producers with fast, accurate genetic insights—helping to reduce costly diseases like brisket disease and strengthen herd performance.

“Technology like this allows producers to breed stronger, healthier animals,” said Dustin Petrik, co-founder of Bullseye GX. “Our goal is to give ranchers tools to make data-driven decisions that benefit the entire beef supply chain.”
Supported by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s Business Innovation Act and the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development’s LaunchLNK program, Bullseye GX is one of several startups fueling Nebraska’s ag tech growth.
Another innovator, Caldwell Cattle & Equipment, developed the Scale ‘n’ Trail—a simple, safe tool that makes handling and tagging calves easier for ranchers. The company showcased its product internationally at EuroTier 2024 in Germany through the State Trade Expansion Program, highlighting how small Nebraska businesses can reach global markets.
From AI-driven feedlot management to robotics in meat processing, Nebraska’s ag tech ecosystem continues to grow with support from state and local economic development programs.
