MONTGOMERY, Ala. (September 2025) – Governor Kay Ivey today announced that Owens Corning, a global leader in building and roofing products, will invest in a new, state-of-the-art shingle manufacturing facility in Prattville, Alabama. The project is expected to create nearly 100 skilled manufacturing jobs and generate significant economic growth for Autauga County and the surrounding region.
“This major investment shows great confidence in Alabama’s workforce and in our state’s ability to support world-class manufacturing,” said Governor Ivey. “With nearly 100 high-quality jobs on the way, this project is a big win for Prattville, Autauga County, and the entire state.”
The new plant will operate a four-wide laminator capable of producing approximately 6 million squares of laminate shingles annually, enhancing Owens Corning’s U.S. production capacity for its high-performance roofing products. The facility will also integrate advanced automation and next-generation technology.
National and Local Impact
Owens Corning, ranked on the Fortune 500 for 71 consecutive years, operates 150 facilities worldwide, including 17 U.S. asphalt roofing plants. Once complete, the Prattville facility will strengthen the company’s Southeastern manufacturing footprint and expand its ability to serve a growing contractor network.
“Our new Prattville facility will service our growing contractor network as we strengthen our U.S. manufacturing footprint,” said Nico Del Monaco, Owens Corning Roofing President. “We are proud to join the Prattville community, expand our presence in Alabama, and build upon the strength of a dedicated workforce that takes pride in delivering quality.”
Partnership and Support
The project is being supported by state and local economic development organizations, including:
A $4.9 million Growing Alabama program investment to accelerate infrastructure improvements at Prattville’s South Industrial Park.
AIDT workforce development services valued at $885,000, providing training and support for new employees.
“Owens Corning’s decision to bring this innovative facility to Prattville reflects Alabama’s strong business climate and reputation as a hub for advanced manufacturing,” said Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce.
Construction on the plant will begin soon, with production scheduled to launch in 2027.
