Agricultural technology manufacturer will double its Vergennes Township facility to meet growing demand for egg and poultry farm management systems.
VERGENNES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (October 2, 2026) — Prism Controls plans to invest $3.8 million to expand its agricultural technology manufacturing facility in Vergennes Township, Michigan, and create 28 jobs over the next five years.
The project, announced by The Right Place, Inc., in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Vergennes Township, will support increased production of technology used in egg and poultry farming.
Located at 890 O E Bieri Industrial Drive in the Lowell area, Prism Controls develops and manufactures systems designed to modernize agricultural operations and improve farm management.
Expansion to Double Manufacturing Facility
Growing customer demand is driving plans to double the company’s existing 15,000-square-foot facility. The expansion will include additional production space, new equipment and expanded office space to accommodate employees.
The investment will allow Prism Controls to increase manufacturing capacity while continuing to develop agricultural technology for customers around the world.
“We are proud to be growing in Michigan, where the state’s continued support is helping make this expansion possible,” said Eric Hansen, president of Prism Controls. “This expansion will nearly double our production capacity, create new opportunities for our workforce, and enable us to bring more of our innovative agricultural solutions to customers around the world, building on a legacy that began in 1980.”
MEDC Supports Project With $210,000 Grant
The MEDC is supporting the expansion through a $210,000 Michigan Business Development Program grant.
The project is expected to generate $3,824,583 in total capital investment. Wages for the 28 planned jobs are expected to range from $22.61 to $36.22 per hour, meeting or exceeding the regional median wage of $22.61 per hour.
The Right Place coordinated state and local resources to support the company’s growth in West Michigan as Prism Controls considered locations closer to customers in Iowa, Ohio and Indiana.
“Prism Controls has a long history of using technology to solve real problems for farmers—from egg counting to fire prevention—and this expansion shows Vergennes Township is where they want to keep innovating,” said Andria Romkema, senior vice president of business development at The Right Place.
“Expanding their footprint with a $3.8 million investment and 28 new jobs reflects the strength of our region’s manufacturing and technology base. The Right Place was glad to help Prism Controls plan for this next chapter of growth here at home.”
Building on a Michigan Agricultural Technology Legacy
Prism Controls traces its roots to 1980, when Stephen Herbruck founded Poultry Management Systems Inc. (PMSI) as an independent controls company serving egg and poultry operations. The company’s history is connected to Herbruck Poultry Ranch, established in Saranac in 1958.
In 2009, Germany-based Big Dutchman, a global supplier of equipment for egg, poultry and pig production, acquired PMSI. The company relocated to Vergennes Township in 2017 and adopted the Prism Controls name in 2023.
The latest investment will strengthen its Michigan manufacturing presence and support continued innovation in agricultural automation and farm management technology.
“Vergennes Township is pleased to have Prism Controls expand its presence in our community,” said Tim Wittenbach, Vergennes Township supervisor. “We look forward to working with the company as it continues to grow and build on our region’s rich agricultural history.”
