COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Commerce today announced the appointment of Dorothy Weaver as Director of Marketing and Communications, where she will oversee the agency’s strategic marketing efforts, lead communications initiatives, and serve as its chief spokesperson.
Weaver brings more than 25 years of experience in mass communications, advertising, digital strategy, and brand development across both public and private sectors. Her career reflects a strong track record of delivering high-impact, multi-platform campaigns and guiding organizations through complex communications challenges.
Prior to joining S.C. Commerce, Weaver spent 10 years with the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, including eight years as Director of Strategic Communications. In that role, she led statewide marketing campaigns and managed crisis communications, most notably directing the agency’s communications strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Weaver holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Mass Communications. She is also a South Carolina Certified Public Manager.
“South Carolina has earned an international reputation as a place where companies can build and sustain lasting legacies,” said Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III. “Dorothy’s depth of experience, leadership, and storytelling expertise will be instrumental in strengthening how we communicate the state’s competitive advantages and economic opportunities to audiences around the world.”
