Expansion Solutions magazine hails region’s economic development success in food processing and transportation industries
Twin Falls, Idaho — The Southern Idaho Economic Development Organization (SIEDO) has received two awards of excellence from Expansion Solutions magazine for its success in growing the food processing and transportation industries.
Expansion Solution’s annual “Top 5 Awards” recognize economic development organizations that have shown exceptional development progress between October 2014 and October 2015 by successfully recruiting, retaining and assisting growing businesses.
“Expansion Solutions is honored to recognize the Southern Idaho Economic Development Organization with our Top 5 Award in Agribusiness/Food Processing and Transportation,” said Jeff Cornett, CEO and president of Expansion Solutions. “Southern Idaho’s recent successes in the agribusiness and food processing recruitments and expansions have positioned SEIDO as a leader in the economic development industry.”
“Southern Idaho is a competitive location for companies across a variety of industries because of our wealth of natural resources and ideal western location,” said Mike Schutz, chair of SIEDO. “We are honored to be recognized by Expansion Solutions with these prestigious awards for our work to grow our agribusiness, food processing and transportation sectors.”
Idaho ranks in the top third of U.S. states for food processing, and Southern Idaho leads the state’s agribusiness industry by contributing over 50% of the state’s record $9.7 billion total Ag receipts for 2014. In addition to food production, food processing and food science, the region offers companies an extensive infrastructure to process, package, warehouse, and transport products nationally and internationally.
In 2015, Southern Idaho was the smallest region in the U.S. to earn the prestigious Federal Manufacturing Community Designation in the food category from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
