Fire protection manufacturer will create 33 new jobs and bring GX Smoke Curtain production to South Carolina
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (September 14, 2026) — Stöbich Fire Protection Systems, a global manufacturer of smoke and fire protection systems, is expanding its operations in Dorchester County with a $2.53 million investment that will create 33 new jobs.
The company will expand its existing North Charleston facility at 5301 Indigo Fields Blvd. to support U.S. manufacturing and assembly of its GX Smoke Curtain, strengthening Stöbich’s domestic production capabilities and its presence in South Carolina.
“The U.S. market is an important part of Stöbich’s long-term growth strategy, and we see significant potential to further expand our presence here,” said Alexander Dolipski, spokesman for the Stöbich Management Board.
Dolipski said the company’s experience in South Carolina helped support the decision to expand locally.
“We are very pleased with the strong support and positive business environment we have experienced in South Carolina, which provides an excellent foundation for strengthening our local operations, expanding manufacturing capabilities and creating new jobs in the region.”
Stöbich Bringing GX Smoke Curtain Manufacturing to South Carolina
As part of the expansion, Stöbich will begin manufacturing and assembling its GX Smoke Curtain at the North Charleston facility.
The product was previously manufactured in Germany.
The GX Smoke Curtain is a code-driven life safety system designed to contain and control smoke at elevator openings and other critical areas within buildings.
By shifting production to South Carolina, Stöbich will increase its U.S. manufacturing capacity while placing production closer to its domestic customer base.
Expanded operations are expected to be online in September 2026.

Founded in 1980, Stöbich develops and manufactures structural and technical fire protection systems.
The company’s product portfolio includes fire and smoke curtains, closures, gates and control systems designed to protect people and property during fire emergencies.
Headquartered in Germany, Stöbich maintains operations and representation in more than 50 countries worldwide.
The Dorchester County project represents another step in the company’s strategy to increase its manufacturing presence in the United States.

The project will create 33 new jobs at the North Charleston operation.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said the expansion reflects continued confidence in the state’s manufacturing workforce and business environment.
“South Carolina’s strong workforce and the opportunities our state provides continue to give companies like Stöbich confidence to expand here,” McMaster said. “This expansion will create 33 new jobs and further strengthen American manufacturing while building on Stöbich’s investment in South Carolina.”
South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III said the project also reinforces the state’s reputation for attracting international manufacturers.
“Stöbich’s decision to expand in Dorchester County reflects our state’s global reputation as a leader in manufacturing,” Lightsey said. “We look forward to the company’s ongoing growth in the Palmetto State.”

Dorchester County Council Chairman David Chinnis said Stöbich’s expansion will further diversify and strengthen the county’s industrial economy.

With a $2.53 million capital investment, 33 new jobs and the localization of GX Smoke Curtain manufacturing, the project expands Stöbich’s U.S. production capabilities while adding to Dorchester County’s growing advanced manufacturing sector.
