Investment supports Premier Ag and boosts agricultural supply chain in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (October 24, 2025) – Tanco Terminals announced a $750,000 expansion of its liquid barge terminal at Ports of Indiana–Jeffersonville, enhancing the region’s agricultural infrastructure and supporting new fertilizer blending operations for Premier Ag, a regional cooperative based in Seymour, Indiana.
The project includes the construction of two 45,000-gallon storage tanks designed to meet the growing demand for customized fertilizer products across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky. Established at the Ohio River port in 2000, Tanco Terminals provides marine, rail, and truck access for liquid asphalt and fertilizer, serving as a key logistics hub for agricultural and industrial customers.
“This expansion is about more than infrastructure – it’s about aligning with the needs of our customers and the market,” said Tanco Terminals Vice President and Managing Director Kip Middendorf. “Premier Ag’s commitment to the Jeffersonville facility helped drive these investments, ensuring we’re ready for future growth.”

The new blending system enables Premier Ag to tailor fertilizer additives for farmers on an order-by-order basis, improving efficiency and supporting higher crop yields. Currently, Premier Ag stores liquid nitrogen (UAN) at Tanco’s terminal, and the new system will allow blending with ammonium thiosulfate to deliver customized nutrient solutions.
“Our expansion at Tanco Terminals is a key step in providing better service to our farmer customers,” said Premier Ag Vice President of New Business Ventures & Fertilizer Jeff Jarrett. “The Jeffersonville facility plays a critical role in our long-term strategy.”
Future development plans include four additional tanks and infrastructure upgrades to allow 24/7 truck loading during peak seasons, supporting continuous operations for regional farmers.
“Farmers operate around the clock, and this expansion ensures fertilizer is available when and where it’s needed most,” said George Ott, Port Director, Ports of Indiana–Jeffersonville.
Founded in 1977, Tanco Terminals is a family-owned Indiana company that has played a vital role in the state’s logistics network for nearly five decades.
“Tanco Terminals is a cornerstone of Indiana’s industrial supply chain,” said Ports of Indiana CEO Jody Peacock. “This expansion highlights the company’s long-term commitment to growth and innovation in the state.”
