Creating 44 New Jobs and Strengthening U.S. Manufacturing
FAIRFIELD, Ala. (Nov. 4, 2025) – United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announced a $75 million investment to install a new Premium Thread Line at its Fairfield Tubular Operations in Fairfield, Alabama, advancing the company’s leadership in American-made tubular steel products for the energy sector.
The new line will enhance U. S. Steel’s manufacturing capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and support the company’s long-term commitment to producing high-performance, sustainable steel made in the United States.
The project is expected to create 44 new full-time jobs—including 40 positions represented by the United Steelworkers—and generate approximately 250 construction jobs during the installation phase.
“U. S. Steel’s investment in the Fairfield Premium Thread Line is a bold step forward for American manufacturing, our workforce, and our communities,” said David B. Burritt, President and CEO of U. S. Steel. “This project exemplifies our commitment to growth, innovation, and delivering high-quality products made in the USA. At U. S. Steel, we’re well on our way to being better and bigger—forged in America and built to be the best.”
Enhancing Manufacturing Capacity and Energy Industry Support
The new Premium Thread Line will strengthen U. S. Steel Tubular Solutions by expanding production capacity and enabling the company to meet growing demand for premium tubular goods used in oil, gas, and energy applications.
Located within the company’s Fairfield Tubular Operations, the site is a key component of U. S. Steel’s Southern manufacturing footprint. It includes an advanced Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) that uses recycled steel to produce seamless tubular products with a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional manufacturing methods—aligning with U. S. Steel’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency.
“The Fairfield Premium Thread Line marks a pivotal advancement for U. S. Steel Tubular Solutions and our customers,” said Scott Dorn, Senior Vice President of U. S. Steel Tubular Solutions. “We’re strengthening our ability to deliver American-made tubular products with greater efficiency and reliability. This investment not only supports the evolving needs of the energy sector but also creates good-paying jobs and reinforces our commitment to innovation and operational excellence in Alabama and beyond.”
Economic and Workforce Impact in Alabama
The Fairfield expansion underscores U. S. Steel’s commitment to Alabama’s manufacturing economy, supporting skilled labor, supply chain growth, and long-term industrial investment in the Birmingham metropolitan region.
Construction is set to begin in the coming months, with completion expected in 2026. The project will leverage local contractors and workforce programs to fill new positions in production, maintenance, and quality operations.
“U. S. Steel’s ongoing investment in Fairfield demonstrates confidence in Alabama’s workforce and our state’s leadership in advanced manufacturing,” said a spokesperson for the Alabama Department of Commerce. “This project builds on our strong foundation in steelmaking and ensures continued economic growth in Jefferson County.”
