New Gaffney operation will expand production of customized wood packaging products for industrial customers
GAFFNEY, S.C. (August 13, 2026) – UFP Packaging, an industrial packaging solutions and services provider, will invest $5.31 million to establish a new manufacturing operation in Cherokee County, creating 136 jobs.
The facility will expand UFP Packaging’s South Carolina footprint and increase its ability to provide customized wood packaging products to industrial customers across the Southeast and other U.S. markets.
“This investment gives our Structural Packaging business added capacity, expanded geographic reach and enhanced ability to deliver highly customized solutions that help customers solve difficult packaging and logistics challenges,” said UFP Industries President and CEO Will Schwartz.
New Gaffney Manufacturing Facility
UFP Packaging will establish the operation at 50 Peachview Blvd. in Gaffney. The company will revitalize the existing facility and convert it into a manufacturing plant for wood packaging products.
The added capacity will help UFP Packaging serve manufacturers with specialized and highly technical packaging requirements.
The company expects the facility to begin operating during the second quarter of 2027.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits associated with the project.
UFP Packaging Expands South Carolina Operations
Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, UFP Packaging designs and manufactures packaging products for businesses across multiple industries.

- Corrugated boxes
- Structural steel packaging
- Customized industrial packaging
- Horticulture racks
- Packaging and logistics services
UFP Packaging is a subsidiary of UFP Industries and operates more than 100 locations worldwide. The company already maintains two South Carolina facilities in Orangeburg County.
Schwartz said South Carolina’s manufacturing environment and workforce made Cherokee County an attractive location for the expansion.

Project Brings 136 Jobs to Cherokee County
State and local leaders said the project will generate quality employment opportunities while supporting continued economic growth in rural South Carolina.

South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III said the project will strengthen economic development efforts in Cherokee County.

The company’s products also serve businesses within the agriculture sector, including farms and horticulture operations.

Gaffney officials welcomed UFP Packaging’s decision to reuse the Peachview Boulevard facility and establish a new manufacturing operation in the community.
