LANSING, Mich. — Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced approval by the Michigan Strategic Fund Board for a major expansion by Adrian Steel Company in Adrian, a project expected to create at least 40 new jobs and generate $43.4 million in capital investment.
The expansion represents Adrian Steel’s largest investment in Michigan since 1953 and reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to the state’s manufacturing sector.
“Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning major projects in industries like steel manufacturing,” said Governor Whitmer. “This investment will create good-paying jobs and further strengthen Michigan as a place where companies can grow and succeed.”
Major Facility Expansion Planned in Adrian
Adrian Steel will add a 112,000-square-foot expansion to its existing facility in Adrian, increasing production capacity and modernizing operations.
The new space will support:
- Raw material storage
- Cutting and forming operations
- Welding and painting
- Assembly functions
- Office space
- Shipping and logistics operations
Over the next five years, the company expects to add at least 40 new positions as part of the growth project.
State Support for Growth
To support the investment, the Michigan Strategic Fund approved a $320,000 performance-based Michigan Business Development Program grant.
Additional incentives include:
- A five-year, 100% State Essential Services Assessment exemption valued at up to $228,751
- Anticipated real property tax abatement from the City of Adrian
- State Education Tax abatement support

Adrian Steel Company has grown from its Michigan roots into a national leader in automotive aftermarket equipment and cargo management systems serving skilled trades professionals across North America.
State officials said the project highlights continued confidence in Michigan’s workforce, infrastructure, and manufacturing competitiveness.
Quentin L. Messer Jr., CEO of Michigan Economic Development Corporation and chair of the Michigan Strategic Fund Board, said the investment reflects the importance of advanced manufacturing to the state’s economy and future growth.
