The last-mile delivery facility will create more than 100 jobs and expand Amazon’s distribution capacity across the Midlands region.
Amazon.com Inc. has selected the Calhoun County I-26 Industrial Park in Gaston, South Carolina, for a new last-mile delivery station encompassing more than 150,000 square feet.
The company purchased the project site directly from Calhoun County following approval by the County Council. Construction began in July 2026, and the facility is tentatively scheduled to open in late 2027.
The project is expected to create more than 100 full- and part-time jobs. Additional employment and operational details will be released as development plans are finalized.
“We’re excited about what it means for the community,” said Sam Blatt, senior manager for economic development at Amazon. “Good jobs, fast delivery for customers and a long-term investment in the Midlands.”
Facility Will Expand Midlands Delivery Capacity
Amazon’s last-mile delivery stations support the final stage of the company’s distribution process. Packages arrive from regional fulfillment and sorting centers before being organized for delivery to homes and businesses.
The new Calhoun County station is expected to increase delivery capacity and provide faster service to customers throughout the Midlands region.
Blatt credited Calhoun County’s leadership and collaboration with helping bring the project to fruition.
“We’re proud to work with the county on this facility,” he said.
Amazon Joins Growing I-26 Industrial Park
The 256-acre Calhoun County I-26 Industrial Park is located near Sonntag Drive and Sires Lane in Gaston. The county-owned park provides access to Interstate 26, utility infrastructure and the regional workforce.
Amazon will join the Starbucks roasting plant and The Fitts Company at the industrial park.
“We are extremely pleased and proud that Amazon, a top-ranked Fortune 500 company, chose the Calhoun County I-26 Industrial Park for its last-mile delivery station,” Calhoun County Council Chairman James Haigler said.
Haigler said the investment will contribute to the economic growth of Calhoun County and the surrounding region through job creation, an expanded tax base and community involvement.
Calhoun County Economic Development Director John McLauchlin Jr. said Amazon’s decision validates the county’s long-term investment in industrial development.
“To have a company of this caliber recognize the value of locating here is a testament to our assets, including our road and utility infrastructure and our proximity to a talented workforce,” McLauchlin said.
The Amazon project represents another significant tenant for the I-26 Industrial Park and reinforces Calhoun County’s position as a logistics and industrial location within central South Carolina.
