Global automotive supplier selects North Carolina for new advanced manufacturing facility
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – October 28, 2025 – Governor Josh Stein announced today that BorgWarner Inc., a global leader in mobility and energy solutions, will invest $74.9 million to expand its operations in Henderson County, creating 193 new jobs. The company plans to construct a 220,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility to produce a new industrial product line, reinforcing North Carolina’s position as a hub for innovation in the automotive industry.
“I am pleased that BorgWarner will deepen its roots in western North Carolina,” said Governor Josh Stein. “This decision reaffirms our ranking as the best state to do business, highlights our thriving automotive sector, and invests in our manufacturing economy in western North Carolina at a time when it’s sorely needed.”
Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, BorgWarner has been a transformative leader in mobility technology for more than 130 years, supplying advanced systems and components to every major automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in the world. The Hendersonville expansion will be the company’s second North Carolina facility, joining a global network of 84 manufacturing and technical centers across 24 countries.
“BorgWarner is proud to continue investing in the state of North Carolina to bring an exciting new technology to market and provide jobs to local residents,” said Joseph F. Fadool, President and CEO of BorgWarner Inc. “We appreciate the ongoing support from the state and local partners as we expand our U.S. manufacturing footprint.”
Strong Regional Impact
The project is expected to generate an annual payroll impact of more than $15 million in the region. While salaries will vary by role, the average annual wage for the new positions will be $78,628, significantly higher than the Henderson County average wage of $51,565.
“BorgWarner could have chosen anywhere in the world for this new product line, but they chose to reinvest in North Carolina,” said N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “Western North Carolina is recovering stronger every day, and companies looking to grow want to do so in places like Henderson County—where talent, supply chain strength, and quality of life converge.”
State Incentives and Economic Benefits
BorgWarner’s expansion is supported in part by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) awarded to BorgWarner Industrial Solutions LLC, approved earlier today by the state’s Economic Investment Committee.
Over the 12-year term of the grant, the project is estimated to grow the state’s economy by $583 million. The JDIG agreement authorizes potential reimbursements of up to $1.79 million, distributed annually upon verification that BorgWarner meets job creation and investment goals.
The project’s return on investment for public funds is projected at 74%, meaning that for every dollar of potential cost to the state, North Carolina receives $1.74 in state revenue. Because Henderson County is a Tier 3 community, the JDIG agreement will also contribute $595,500 to the Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account, which supports infrastructure improvements in rural areas across the state.
Local and Legislative Support
“We are delighted to welcome BorgWarner back to Hendersonville,” said Senator Timothy D. Moffitt. “This company has been a strong corporate partner, and we look forward to many more years of collaboration and growth.”
“This is outstanding news for the region and the entire state,” said Representative Jake Johnson. “These new jobs and investments are a testament to the hard work of our economic development teams and the resilience of western North Carolina.”
Collaborative Effort
The project was made possible through the partnership of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), the North Carolina General Assembly, N.C. Commerce’s Division of Workforce Solutions, the North Carolina Community College System, Blue Ridge Community College, Duke Energy, Henderson County, the Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development, and the City of Hendersonville.
