$3.8M investment establishes advanced training, entrepreneurship and emerging technology center in Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The College of Staten Island has officially opened its new Innovation Hub, a $3.845 million investment designed to accelerate technology development, workforce training, and entrepreneurship in New York City’s Staten Island borough.
Located within the Lighthouse Point development in St. George, the facility is positioned as a catalyst for economic growth, supported in part by nearly $1.8 million in funding from the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
Building a Local Innovation Ecosystem
Anchored by the CSI Tech Incubator, the Innovation Hub expands the college’s ability to support startups, small businesses, and industry partnerships while providing hands-on training aligned with emerging technology sectors.
The facility features flexible co-working space, collaboration zones, and advanced technology labs designed to foster innovation and business formation. Programming will focus on high-growth fields including artificial intelligence, robotics, and immersive technologies.
Through a partnership with The Glimpse Group, the Hub integrates virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), robotics, and AI into both academic and workforce development programs—bridging the gap between education and industry demand.
Workforce Development Meets Emerging Technologies
Leaders emphasized the Hub’s role in preparing students and the broader community for careers in rapidly evolving industries.
College officials noted that access to advanced technologies is already being incorporated across disciplines, from healthcare training to social services, reflecting a broader shift toward tech-enabled workforce development.
The Innovation Hub aligns with the mission of the City University of New York to expand economic mobility by equipping students with in-demand skills and direct pathways to employment.
Strategic Investment in Downtown Revitalization
State and regional leaders highlighted the project as a model for leveraging placemaking and innovation to strengthen local economies.
By locating the Hub in the Lighthouse Point development along Bay Street, the project contributes to broader revitalization efforts in Staten Island’s downtown core—bringing new activity, talent, and business opportunities to the area.
Officials from Empire State Development noted that the facility supports long-term economic competitiveness by expanding access to training, supporting entrepreneurs, and strengthening the regional workforce pipeline.
Collaboration Driving Community Impact
The Innovation Hub reflects a collaborative effort between higher education, government, and private industry partners. Local leaders emphasized its potential to deliver lasting economic impact by connecting students, entrepreneurs, and businesses with the tools and resources needed to innovate and grow.
The facility is expected to serve as a central hub for technology demonstration, startup support, and professional training—creating new pathways for residents and businesses to participate in the innovation economy.
