COLUMBIA, Tenn. (Mar. 2, 2026) — StickyPOS® linerless label manufacturer Documotion Research Inc. has announced a $9.1 million expansion of its manufacturing operations in Columbia, Tennessee, a project expected to create 48 new jobs in Maury County.
The expansion will add approximately 40,000 square feet of new space dedicated to manufacturing and maintenance operations, strengthening the company’s production capacity and supporting continued growth in the U.S. market.
Strengthening an Established Tennessee Operation
Founded in Santa Ana, California, in 1998, Documotion Research expanded to Maury County in 2020. From its Columbia facility, the company produces and distributes StickyPOS® linerless labels to more than 50,000 locations daily.
Introduced in 2014, StickyPOS® is an innovative linerless label solution designed for point-of-sale systems and restaurants. The product has surpassed 50 billion labels sold worldwide, positioning Documotion as a leading supplier in the specialty label market.
Company leadership cited strong local partnerships and business support as key drivers behind the decision to expand in Tennessee rather than establish operations elsewhere.
“Expanding our operations to Maury County in 2020 was one of the best decisions our company has ever made,” said Joel Van Boom, President of Documotion Research. “We have been extremely happy with the support from the county and state as we have grown, which is the main reason we chose to expand here instead of opening another facility in a different region.”
State and Local Leaders Applaud Reinvestment
Governor Bill Lee emphasized Tennessee’s competitive business climate as a catalyst for continued investment.
“Tennessee is leading the nation as the best state to do business because of our low-tax environment and highly skilled workforce,” Lee said. “Documotion Research’s expansion is a direct result of the strong statewide ecosystem we’ve built.”
Deputy Governor and Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter noted that expansions from existing companies reflect long-term confidence in the state’s economic environment.
“When a company chooses to expand here, it’s a testament to both our state and the community that company calls home,” McWhorter said.
Supporting Industrial Diversification in Maury County
Local officials highlighted the expansion as another example of Maury County’s ability to attract and retain advanced manufacturing employers.
“Documotion Research has been an excellent fit for our community, creating high-quality jobs and diversifying our industrial base,” said Maury County Mayor Sheila Butt. “It is especially exciting to celebrate an existing employer reinvesting locally.”
Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder added that the expansion reinforces the city’s competitive position for innovative manufacturing operations.
Regional partners, including the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Columbia Power & Water Systems, Maury Alliance, and the Middle Tennessee Industrial Development Association, collaborated to support the project.
Driving Continued Growth in Southern Middle Tennessee
The $9.1 million investment and 48 new jobs further strengthen Maury County’s reputation as a growing hub for advanced manufacturing and specialty production. State leaders noted that the expansion reflects Tennessee’s broader momentum in attracting and retaining business investment across key industrial sectors.
