Las Vegas Production Highlights Nevada’s Growing Role in Film, Television and Entertainment Economic Development
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), through its Film Nevada division, recently hosted a special screening of the season five finale of Universal Television and HBO’s acclaimed television series Hacks, followed by a panel discussion focused on the workforce, business and economic impact of film and television production in Nevada.
The event highlighted how major productions such as Hacks support local jobs, small businesses, tourism visibility and long-term economic development across the state.
Filmed in Las Vegas and supported by a tax credit from Film Nevada, Hacks has become one of television’s most celebrated comedy series while showcasing the city’s distinctive entertainment, hospitality and cultural landscape to audiences around the world.
According to production representatives, the fifth season of Hacks delivered significant economic benefits to Nevada, including:
- Employment for more than 1,100 Nevada residents
- Support for nearly 300 businesses across the state
- Millions of dollars in economic activity generated through local production spending
- Increased national and international exposure for Las Vegas as a film and television destination
- Expanded opportunities for local crew, vendors and production service providers
Panel Highlights Film Production’s Workforce and Business Impact
The screening event featured a panel discussion moderated by Film Nevada Deputy Director Danette Tull. Panelists included Hacks Executive Producer Morgan Sackett, Universal Television Group Senior Vice President of Production Michael Swanson and Film Nevada Director Kim Spurgeon.
The discussion focused on the growing role of film and television production as an economic driver in Nevada. Topics included:
- Workforce development opportunities in the production industry
- Local hiring and crew development
- Production spending with Nevada businesses
- Location support and permitting assistance
- Long-term economic benefits generated by attracting major productions to the state
“Hacks is one example of how film and television productions can deliver meaningful economic benefits while promoting Nevada’s unique communities and landscapes,” said Spurgeon. “Our team works closely with productions to identify locations, connect them with local crew and vendors, and help ensure successful filming experiences throughout the state.”
Nevada Film Production Generates $93.3 Million in 2025 Spending
During calendar year 2025, 337 productions spent $93.3 million in Nevada. Film Nevada supported these projects by helping productions identify film-friendly locations, connect with local crew and services, and navigate the logistics of filming throughout the state.
The agency works to position Nevada as a premier production destination for film, television, commercials and other audiovisual media. Through these efforts, Film Nevada helps generate in-state spending, create jobs and support Nevada’s broader entertainment and tourism economy.
Las Vegas Celebrates Hacks With “Deborah Vance Way” and “Hacks Day”
As part of the event, Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley presented the production with custom “Deborah Vance Way” street signs in honor of the show’s iconic character. Mayor Berkley also proclaimed May 28, 2026, as “Hacks Day,” recognizing the series’ connection to Las Vegas and its role in bringing the city’s character to audiences around the globe.
“Las Vegas continues to capture the world’s imagination as a one-of-a-kind location for the film and television industry,” Mayor Berkley said. “Hacks has brought international attention to Las Vegas showcasing our city and its unique character. The series underscores the importance of entertainment as a driver of economic development, job creation and community investment.”
