Mobile App Provides Container Location Data, Digital Gate Tickets and Real-Time Updates for Truckers
SAVANNAH, Ga. (June 4, 2026) — The Georgia Ports Authority is seeing strong adoption of its GPA Trucker mobile app, a digital tool designed to streamline the trucker experience at the Port of Savannah by providing on-terminal container location data, digital gate tickets and real-time alerts.
Since the app’s rollout in October 2025, enrollment has grown from fewer than 900 users to more than 4,000 users, according to the Georgia Ports Authority.
The app is designed to help drivers navigate terminal operations more efficiently, reduce paper handling at gates and support faster truck moves at one of the nation’s busiest container ports.
“We’re happy to see the trucking community using the app to streamline the driver experience. Truckers are our front-line customers. Faster turn times for them make our entire port operation more productive,” said GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch. “Our goal is to make it easier for drivers to use our ports.”
GPA Trucker App Supports Faster Gate Transactions
The GPA Trucker app provides drivers with on-terminal container location data and push notifications when digital gate transaction tickets are issued. By reducing the need for paper documents at terminal gates, the app helps improve efficiency and supports a more streamlined on-terminal process.
Key app features include:
- On-terminal container location data
- Digital gate transaction tickets
- Push notifications for ticket updates
- Real-time alerts for gate hours and weather updates
- Container PIN support
- Biometric login through facial recognition or fingerprint authentication
- Ability to store or forward digital tickets
- Visibility into container reassignment or expired PIN issues
App Helps Drivers Pinpoint Container Locations
The app now allows drivers to see their own location on terminal relative to pinned container positions. This feature helps truckers navigate port facilities more efficiently and reduces unnecessary driving inside the terminal.
The app also identifies the terminal gate closest to the assigned container, helping drivers select the most efficient route for pickup or drop-off.
The Port of Savannah handles more than 14,000 truck gate moves on an average weekday between 4 a.m. and 6 p.m. Truck turn times average 32 minutes for a single transaction and 50 minutes for dual moves involving both export drop-offs and import pickups.
Lynch said those quick turn times allow many drivers serving local warehouses to complete six to eight trips per day while maintaining predictable schedules.
Digital Tickets Improve PIN Process for Truckers
The GPA Trucker app also simplifies the use of personal identification numbers, or PINs, which Georgia Ports uses to track container transactions.
Historically, drivers provided a PIN at the gate to receive a paper ticket showing where a container could be picked up or dropped off. PINs are valid for 72 hours.
With the mobile app, digital tickets are automatically sent to drivers’ phones. Those tickets can be stored on the device or forwarded to a trucking company, eliminating paper handling and improving communication between drivers and dispatchers.
The additional visibility can help drivers avoid unnecessary trips, including situations where:
- A PIN has expired
- An export container has been reassigned to another vessel
- Gate hours have changed
- Weather conditions impact operations
- A container location has changed
While use of the app remains optional at Garden City Terminal, Savannah’s largest facility, truck gates at the smaller Ocean Terminal now rely exclusively on digital tickets.
The GPA Trucker app is available on Apple and Android platforms.
Facial Recognition Technology Speeds Gate Access
Georgia Ports is also rolling out facial recognition technology at Garden City Terminal gates to further improve the truck gate process.
Port officials said a successful trial has been completed, and facial recognition is now available at all inbound lanes at Gate 3. This marks the first phase of a gradual rollout of facial recognition technology across all gates at Garden City Terminal.
Drivers must still keep their Transportation Worker Identification Credential, or TWIC card, in their immediate possession while on terminal. However, drivers enrolled in the facial recognition system no longer need to present their TWIC cards at lanes equipped with the technology.
Drivers who wish to enroll in facial recognition may do so from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at GPA Public Safety, located at 102 Main St. in Garden City. A TWIC card is required. Facial recognition enrollment is separate from GPA Trucker app enrollment.
Port of Savannah Continues Investing in Supply Chain Efficiency
The GPA Trucker app and facial recognition rollout reflect Georgia Ports’ continued focus on improving supply chain efficiency, reducing friction at terminal gates and enhancing service for motor carriers.
By combining digital gate tickets, container visibility, real-time alerts and biometric gate access, GPA is working to improve the experience for truck drivers while supporting faster cargo movement through the Port of Savannah.

About Georgia Ports
Georgia’s ports in Savannah and Brunswick are strategic gateways that help create some of the most competitive supply chains in the nation through strong operations, connectivity and a robust supply chain ecosystem. These assets, combined with Georgia’s ranking as the top state to do business for 12 consecutive years, support a strong business model for continued growth.
The Port of Savannah is one of the best-connected ports in the United States to world markets, with 40 ship calls per week, 42 doublestack trains per week and 14,000 truck gate moves daily. The Port of Brunswick is the No. 1 ranked U.S. Roll-on/Roll-off port by annual volumes for autos and continues to handle increasing machinery cargo through expanded high and heavy cargo operating space.
The Georgia Ports Authority has a self-financed investment plan of nearly $5 billion over the next 10 years, including five new big ship container berths in Savannah and a fourth RoRo berth in Brunswick to meet future growth. In the past decade, GPA has invested $3.2 billion in infrastructure improvements.
As part of GPA’s community engagement efforts, $6 million is being donated to port communities to support a multi-year local workforce housing initiative, helping 178 families repair, buy or build a home in the Savannah area since its start in September 2023.
