HempWood, a pioneering force in sustainable building materials, has officially opened a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on its campus in Murray, Kentucky.
The expansion marks a major milestone in the company’s mission to scale eco-conscious innovation and strengthen American manufacturing.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on August 5, celebrated the launch of a new production line designed to increase output of HempWood’s patented, carbon-negative hardwood. Made from locally sourced hemp fibers and soy-based adhesives, the material is formaldehyde-free and engineered to outperform traditional lumber—20% denser than oak and grown 100 times faster.
“This new facility is a testament to HempWood’s growth and our mission to provide eco-friendly, high-quality building materials,” said Greg Wilson, Founder and CEO of HempWood. “By expanding our operations in Murray, we’re not only increasing production but also creating jobs and supporting local farmers, all while reducing the ecological footprint of traditional lumber.”
Expansion Highlights
- Enhanced Production Capacity: The new line will improve lead times and support custom orders for flooring, panels, furniture, and millworks.
- Local Impact: Hemp is sourced within a 100-mile radius, supporting regional agriculture and reducing transportation emissions.
- Job Creation: HempWood continues to hire for various roles and is actively recruiting factory representatives and dealers.
Recognition and Growth
HempWood’s expansion follows its designation as the 2024 “Coolest Thing Made in Kentucky” by the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers. Since its founding in 2018, the company has achieved 357% growth over three years, earning the top spot in Kentucky manufacturing on the Inc. 5000 list for 2025.
The company also maintains a strong partnership with Murray State University’s Hutson School of Agriculture, leveraging research and student engagement to strengthen its supply chain and community ties. HempWood currently contracts with local farmers for 2,000 tons of hemp stalks annually, with plans to increase purchases by 20% in the coming year.
Economic Development Support
HempWood’s contributions to Kentucky’s hemp industry have garnered praise from state officials, including former Governor Matt Bevin. The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has backed the company with up to $300,000 in performance-based tax incentives tied to job creation and capital investment.
The ribbon-cutting event featured remarks from company leadership, a guided tour of the new facility, and a networking reception that underscored HempWood’s commitment to the Calloway County community.
