DES MOINES, Iowa — November 25, 2025 — Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig has returned from a successful international trade mission to Vietnam and Indonesia, leading a 12-member delegation focused on expanding Iowa’s agricultural exports and strengthening long-standing global trade partnerships. The mission, coordinated by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), featured representatives from Iowa’s leading grain and protein commodity groups and highlighted the state’s competitive advantage in supplying high-quality corn, soybeans, pork, beef and biofuels.
Vietnam and Indonesia remain two of Southeast Asia’s most rapidly growing markets for U.S. agricultural products. In 2024, Vietnam ranked among the top 10 global importers of American ag commodities, purchasing more than $4.5 billion, while Indonesia imported $3.8 billion that same year. Iowa companies alone exported approximately $223.4 million in agricultural goods to Vietnam and $297.6 million to Indonesia. (Source: USDA and WISERTrade)
“I was proud to lead a delegation of Iowa farmers into two fast-growing markets where we already have strong, established relationships,” said Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig. “These are dynamic economies that value quality, reliability and sustainability—areas where Iowa excels. As their populations grow and middle-class incomes rise, we see significant opportunities to expand Iowa’s presence and increase exports.”
From November 14–23, the Iowa delegation visited Hanoi, Vietnam and Jakarta, Indonesia, meeting with government ministries, agricultural organizations and commercial partners. The mission included trade policy discussions, market briefings and targeted business development meetings to open doors for future sales and collaboration.
Delegates represented several key agricultural organizations, including:
- Iowa Beef Industry Council
- Iowa Corn Growers Association
- Iowa Farm Bureau Federation
- Iowa Pork Producers Association
- Iowa Soybean Association
IEDA partnered with the U.S. Grains Council, U.S. Meat Export Federation, U.S. Soybean Export Council, and the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service to identify strategic opportunities and coordinate high-level meetings with buyers, processors and government officials.
IEDA’s Global Business team continues to support Iowa exporters through market intelligence, trade missions and international business development services. More information about trade resources and upcoming missions is available at iowaeda.com.
