Project is Creating Over 14,500 Jobs
JetZero, a pioneering aerospace manufacturer, has announced plans to invest $4.7 billion in a state-of-the-art production facility at Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) in Greensboro, North Carolina. The facility, set to break ground in early 2026, will produce JetZero’s revolutionary all-wing Z4 airplane—an aircraft that boasts 50% greater fuel efficiency compared to today’s commercial jets. The project will bring more than 14,500 jobs to the region and relocate JetZero’s headquarters from Long Beach, California, to North Carolina once operations begin.
This expansion marks the largest job announcement in North Carolina’s history.
Governor Josh Stein praised the transformative impact of the project, stating: “I am thrilled to welcome JetZero and its 14,000 good-paying jobs and unprecedented innovation to Guilford County. From first in flight to now the future of flight, North Carolina and our skilled workforce are soaring.”
The facility, designed to be a “factory of the future,” will incorporate advanced digital and AI-driven systems, streamlining production efficiency, reducing costs, and strengthening supply chains. The Z4 aircraft, seating 250 passengers, is expected to enter service by the early 2030s, reshaping the future of aviation with superior fuel efficiency and performance.
Strategic Partnerships & Business Climate
North Carolina offers JetZero a strong, sustainable talent pipeline, with over 5.5 million skilled workers, 49,000 engineers, and 30,000 annual STEM graduates. Ranked among the top three states for business by CNBC for five consecutive years, North Carolina provides a highly competitive business environment—including the nation’s lowest corporate tax rate, at 2.25%, and a cost of living 5% below the national average.
Tom O’Leary, CEO and Co-Founder of JetZero, emphasized the advantages of the region: “North Carolina offers the ideal combination of talent, infrastructure, and forward-thinking leadership to support our mission to reshape aviation. This facility is a critical milestone in bringing our all-wing Z4 to market. We applaud the leadership of Governor Josh Stein, the North Carolina General Assembly, and the many local partners who made this possible.”
JetZero has already secured investments and conditional purchase agreements from Alaska Airlines and United Airlines. Fourteen airlines have joined JetZero’s Airline Working Group, ensuring the Z4 seamlessly integrates into existing airport infrastructure.
Workforce Development & Higher Education Collaboration
JetZero will partner closely with North Carolina’s 58 community colleges to design a $22 million customized workforce training program, led by Guilford Technical Community College and other regional institutions.
John Loyack, Vice President of Economic Development for the North Carolina Community College System, reinforced the commitment to workforce development: “North Carolina’s expansive community college network will serve as a critical workforce development engine for JetZero. We’re excited to move forward with customized training to ensure seamless workforce onboarding.”
Industry Partners & Economic Impact
JetZero’s facility will create thousands of direct and indirect advanced manufacturing and engineering jobs, with salaries averaging over $89,000 per year. Siemens will collaborate with JetZero to integrate cutting-edge digital and industrial AI tools into the factory, optimizing production and efficiency.
Christopher Chung, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, highlighted the state’s growing aerospace sector: “This announcement cements North Carolina’s reputation as a hub for aerospace innovation and top-tier STEM talent. With our dynamic workforce and growing population, we’re attracting industry leaders who will strengthen local economies and communities across the state.”
