DAYTON, Ohio (January 12, 2026) — Joby Aviation, Inc. (NYSE: JOBY), a developer of all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for commercial passenger service, announced plans to acquire a second manufacturing facility in the Dayton region, significantly expanding its production capacity and strengthening its long-term presence in Ohio.
The more than 700,000-square-foot facility, which is ready for immediate use, will support Joby’s plan to double aircraft production to four aircraft per month in 2027 while also providing space for future manufacturing growth. Operations at the new site are expected to begin later this year, complementing Joby’s existing manufacturing operations in both California and Ohio.
The expansion reinforces Joby’s dual-site manufacturing strategy, leveraging Ohio’s deep aerospace and advanced manufacturing talent base while scaling production to meet growing market demand.
“This site will not only support our near-term plan to double production, but also serve as a foundation for long-term growth as we transition from engineering innovation to manufacturing at scale,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation.
Bevirt added that Dayton’s legacy as the birthplace of aviation continues to play a central role in Joby’s growth strategy. “From the Wright Brothers to today’s next-generation aircraft, Dayton remains at the heart of aerospace innovation. Ohio has become central to Joby’s manufacturing story, and the state’s strong policy support and skilled workforce make it an ideal place to build the future of flight.”
Building on Recent Manufacturing Momentum
Joby’s Ohio expansion builds on a series of recent manufacturing milestones. In July 2025, the company completed an expansion of its manufacturing facility in Marina, California, and in October 2025 confirmed the start of propeller blade production in Ohio. To support its planned production increase, Joby has begun procuring capital equipment needed to expand manufacturing capacity, while hiring continues in California to enable round-the-clock operations.
Ohio Leaders Applaud Investment
State and local leaders welcomed Joby’s continued investment, highlighting Ohio’s longstanding leadership in aviation and advanced manufacturing.
“From the Wright Brothers to Joby Aviation, Ohio has always been where the future of flight takes shape,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “Joby’s expanded manufacturing presence in the Miami Valley brings together our aviation heritage and world-class workforce to build aircraft that will redefine mobility.”
JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef emphasized the state’s ability to support companies as they scale: “Joby’s decision to expand again in Ohio demonstrates how our state helps companies move from innovation to production at scale. Since Joby first announced its Ohio operations in 2023, the company has continued to show how Ohio delivers the talent, infrastructure, and collaboration needed for advanced manufacturing success.”
Local and federal leaders also highlighted the project’s impact on workforce development, regional growth, and the continued evolution of Dayton as a hub for aerospace innovation.
Positioned for the Next Phase of Advanced Air Mobility
Joby’s manufacturing growth comes amid increasing national focus on advanced air mobility (AAM), as federal agencies move to establish regulatory frameworks and pilot programs supporting the integration of electric aircraft into the transportation ecosystem. With expanded production capacity across California and Ohio, Joby is positioning itself to meet future demand while advancing domestic manufacturing of next-generation aircraft.
