Global ingredients producer establishes first U.S. production site, advancing long-term growth strategy
Morrison, IL — November 13, 2025 — Jungbunzlauer, a worldwide leader in sustainable, nature-based ingredients, has announced the acquisition of International Flavors & Fragrances’ multipurpose production facility in Thomson, Illinois. The investment marks a significant milestone for the company as it establishes its first U.S. manufacturing operation and accelerates its expansion across North America.
“This acquisition is a significant step in Jungbunzlauer’s growth journey,” said Bruno Tremblay, Chief Executive Officer. “Establishing a U.S. manufacturing footprint allows us to work closer to our North American customers, better understand their challenges, and deliver sustainable, trusted solutions that truly make a difference.”
Preparations at the Thomson site—including facility readiness, equipment installation, and regulatory compliance—will begin immediately. The facility will support production across Jungbunzlauer’s expanding portfolio of naturally derived ingredients such as citric acid, mineral salts, texturants, and acidulants. The company’s North American growth is further reinforced by the recent expansion of its biogums operation in Canada.
“We look forward to providing further updates, including operational plans, future hiring, and community engagement initiatives as we prepare the facility for production,” Tremblay added.
Strategic Midwestern Location Positions Company for Long-Term Success
Located between the Mississippi River and Illinois Route 84, the newly acquired facility offers a premier logistical setting with water, rail, and highway access. Northwest Illinois is also supported by robust infrastructure investments, including a $121 million broadband fiber deployment, renewable energy availability, and a strong regional workforce.
“This is an important investment for Northwest Illinois,” said Gary Camarano, Administrator of the Whiteside Carroll Enterprise Zone. “Jungbunzlauer’s decision highlights the strategic advantages of our region and reflects the kind of global-scale, sustainable investment that will help diversify and grow our local economy.”
A Warm Welcome from Local Leaders
Local and regional officials have voiced strong support for the project and its anticipated economic benefits.
“This investment will have a tremendous impact on the region,” said Carroll County Board Chair Julie Bickelhaupt. “It highlights the many advantages Northwest Illinois offers businesses seeking a new location and a business-friendly environment. This is truly a ‘win-win’ scenario for everyone involved. Welcome, Jungbunzlauer!”
Camarano added, “Jungbunzlauer will find a welcoming community, strong workforce partners, and a business ecosystem eager to support their success. This is exactly the type of collaborative, sustainable growth model we’ve been working toward.”
