State-of-the-art facility to host 10,000+ NVIDIA GPUs and create new technology jobs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (October 28, 2025) – Lambda, The Superintelligence Cloud, has announced plans to establish a next-generation AI Factory in Kansas City, Missouri, marking a major milestone in the company’s ongoing expansion across the Midwest. The project will transform a previously unoccupied 2009-built facility into a high-performance AI data center powered by more than 10,000 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs, with capacity expected to double in future phases.
Set to launch in early 2026, the new facility will begin with 24 megawatts of power and the potential to scale to more than 100 megawatts, supporting large-scale AI training and inference for enterprise customers. The site will initially support a single Lambda client under a multi-year agreement and create new, high-quality technology jobs in the region.
“Missouri is proud to welcome Lambda as they create new, high-quality jobs and strengthen our state’s technology and innovation ecosystem,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “Their decision to grow here underscores Missouri’s pro-business environment and commitment to advancing the technologies that define the future.”
“Our Kansas City development perfectly embodies Lambda’s strategy: a prime location for our customers, an accelerated deployment timeline, and an unwavering commitment to on-time delivery,” added Ken Patchett, Vice President of Datacenter Infrastructure at Lambda.
Transforming an Idle Site into a Center of Innovation
Lambda’s investment will repurpose a dormant data center and its unused power infrastructure into a future-ready AI hub. The project’s first phase represents an investment estimated at over half a billion dollars, employing numerous on-site personnel and contracted specialists to maintain the complex systems required to operate the supercomputing facility.
“Today in Kansas City, we are building the infrastructure to capitalize on AI’s boom,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “An investment of this scale in the Northland showcases our city’s growing strength in technology, innovation, and job creation.”
“This project highlights the Kansas City region’s ability to creatively reimagine assets and attract transformative investment,” said Tim Cowden, President and CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council. “With our reliable power, strong IT talent, and proven infrastructure, Kansas City continues to draw world-leading technology companies.”
A Regional Partnership for the AI Era
The Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri Partnership, and other state and local organizations worked collaboratively to attract and support the Lambda project.
“Lambda’s investment emphasizes Missouri’s growing strength in technology and innovation,” said Michelle Hataway, Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. “This project will enhance our workforce, drive sustainable growth, and expand opportunities across the region.”
“Choosing Kansas City for a next-generation AI data center sends a clear message: Missouri is a technology leader at the center of the country,” added Subash Alias, CEO of Missouri Partnership. “Lambda’s presence will accelerate the digital economy and expand opportunity for Missourians.”
Key partners in the project include the State of Missouri, Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri Partnership, Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC), Platte County EDC, City of Kansas City, Mo., Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, Mo., Port KC, Evergy, Spire, KC Tech Council, Russell, Henderson Engineers, U.S. Engineering, and Capital Electric.
