The Chatham County project will add 450,000 square feet of manufacturing space for gas turbine parts.
ATLANTA, Ga. — Mitsubishi Power Americas plans to invest $490 million to expand its Savannah Machinery Works facility in Chatham County, Georgia, creating more than 220 jobs.
The expansion will add approximately 450,000 square feet to the facility near Pooler, where Mitsubishi Power will manufacture parts for gas turbines. The project will double the company’s footprint in Chatham County and support growing demand for power generation equipment.
“Meeting the growing demand for power will require investment in facilities, in our supply chain, and in our workforce—which is what we’re building here at Savannah Machinery Works,” said Bill Newsom, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Americas.
Expansion Strengthens Georgia’s Energy Manufacturing Sector
Mitsubishi Power is a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Its power generation offerings include gas, steam and aero-derivative turbines, geothermal systems, environmental controls and related services. The company also develops solutions for AI-enabled autonomous power plant operations.
Gov. Brian Kemp said discussions with Mitsubishi Power and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Tokyo helped Georgia leaders better understand the company’s potential for growth in the state.
“We are excited that the Savannah Machinery Works is expanding to turn those possibilities into reality,” Kemp said.
The Savannah Machinery Works is located at 1000 Pine Meadow Drive near Pooler. The company plans to hire for manufacturing, operations, heavy machinery and technician positions. Interested applicants can learn more at Mitsubishi Power’s careers page.
Chatham County Project Creates New Job Opportunities
Trip Tollison, president and CEO of the Savannah Economic Development Authority, described the expansion as a significant win for Chatham County. He said the competitive project represents Mitsubishi Power Americas’ largest investment to date and will create new employment opportunities for the community.
The Georgia Department of Economic Development worked with the Savannah Economic Development Authority, Georgia Power and Georgia Quick Start to support the project.
Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson said the state’s ports, railways, highways and airports provide connectivity for Mitsubishi Power’s operations. He also pointed to the long-standing relationship between the company and Georgia as a factor in its continued investment.
The expansion builds on Mitsubishi Power’s presence in the Savannah region and adds manufacturing capacity for equipment that supports electricity generation across the Americas.
