Investing $19.6 Million and Creating 57 New Jobs
Buena Vista, VA — Modine, a global leader in thermal management technology and manufacturing, will strengthen its long-standing presence in Virginia with a $19.6 million expansion that includes establishing the headquarters of its heating division in Buena Vista. The capital investment, planned through 2029, will support new warehouse, office, and testing facility construction, along with equipment upgrades designed to accelerate growth in Modine’s heating business. The project will also create 57 new jobs in the Commonwealth.
Governor Glenn Youngkin emphasized the significance of Modine’s expanded commitment to Virginia’s manufacturing ecosystem.
“Modine’s decision to relocate their heating division to Virginia is a powerful testament to what is possible when we foster an environment where businesses and families can thrive,” said Governor Youngkin. “With deep roots in Buena Vista, Modine is a trusted leader in the Shenandoah Valley and a valued partner in driving economic opportunity across the region.”
The expansion supports Modine’s strategy to meet rising demand for heating solutions across commercial, industrial, and residential markets. The newly established headquarters will position the company to better serve customers while enhancing operational efficiency.
Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura underscored the broader benefits for Virginia’s manufacturing sector.
“Investments like this, especially from a long-time Virginia employer, show that there is no better place than Virginia to grow a manufacturing business,” said Segura. “As demand for thermal management technology rises, Modine and the Commonwealth are rising to the challenge.”
A Legacy of Innovation and Partnership in Buena Vista
Modine has operated in Buena Vista for more than 60 years, producing energy-efficient heating systems for diverse markets. The company’s heating business manufactures gas-fired, electric, hydronic, and oil-fired products used in facilities worldwide.
“We are excited to build on that legacy with this new investment,” said Matt Niebur, General Manager of Modine Heating. “The collaboration and support from local and state authorities have been essential to our continued growth and success in Virginia.”
Local officials praised the announcement as a milestone for the community.
“Modine’s continued commitment to Buena Vista is a tremendous vote of confidence in our workforce and business environment,” said Buena Vista Mayor Tyson Cooper. “Their decision to locate the heating division headquarters here reinforces a partnership that has strengthened our community for more than six decades.”
Shenandoah Valley Partnership Executive Director Jay A. Langston added:
“Modine has consistently created jobs and economic growth for the region. We are thrilled the Buena Vista facility will now serve as the headquarters for its heating division.”
Building Momentum for Virginia’s Advanced Manufacturing Sector
The expansion follows Modine’s recent $18.1 million investment in Rockbridge County, which created more than 200 jobs. Together, these projects highlight the company’s long-term commitment to Virginia and the Commonwealth’s strategic position as a hub for advanced manufacturing.
“Modine’s growth underscores the strength of our regional workforce and pro-business environment,”said Delegate Terry Austin.
State Support & Incentives
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) collaborated with the City of Buena Vista and the Shenandoah Valley Partnership to secure the project. Governor Youngkin approved a $300,000 Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund grant to support the investment.
Modine’s hiring efforts will be supported through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP), which provides funding and consultative services for workforce recruitment and training. As a state-funded incentive program, VJIP reduces human resource costs for expanding employers and reinforces Virginia’s commitment to job creation.
