State grants of up to $200,000 aim to accelerate quantum innovation and high-tech job growth
SANTA FE, NM — The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) is now accepting applications for the New Mexico Quantum Technologies Award, a competitive state grant program offering up to $200,000 per companyto support early-stage quantum technology firms and expand New Mexico’s rapidly growing advanced technology sector.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through April 30, 2026, at 5 p.m. MST.
The initiative is designed to attract and scale companies developing quantum and quantum-enabling technologies while strengthening statewide innovation capacity and creating high-tech employment opportunities.
Supporting the Growth of a Strategic Industry
The Quantum Technologies Award targets early-stage companies working in areas such as:
- Quantum computing technologies
- Quantum sensing and communications
- Advanced photonics and laser systems
- Quantum-enabling hardware and software platforms
State officials view quantum technology as a key driver of future economic growth and a natural extension of New Mexico’s established national laboratory ecosystem.
The program’s first award recipient, Mesa Quantum, leveraged state funding to establish operations in New Mexico and advance laser technology development in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories.
Eligibility and Program Requirements
Eligible applicants must:
- Be for-profit companies
- Have previously secured outside investment funding
- Conduct quantum or quantum-enabling technology development
Companies headquartered outside New Mexico may apply but must:
- Be authorized to do business in the state
- Establish and maintain an in-state presence
- Use awarded funds to support New Mexico-based activities

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through April 30, with awards expected to support company growth, commercialization activities, and expansion of New Mexico’s quantum workforce.
