Showcasing Regional Talent and Creative Industry Growth
MORRISON, Ill. (April, 16 2026) — The Northwest Illinois Film Office has announced the return of its signature event, the Sixth Annual Northwest Illinois Film Festival: Shorts-A-Palooza 2026, set for Wednesday, April 29 at Morrison Techin Morrison, Illinois. The free community event will highlight a diverse lineup of independent short films while reinforcing the growing role of film and digital media in the region’s economy.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with screenings beginning at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
“Shorts-A-Palooza continues to showcase the extraordinary talent emerging from our region and across Illinois,” said Gary Camarano, Executive Director of the Northwest Illinois Film Office. “Our independent filmmakers are contributing to award-winning projects across film, documentary, and animation. This festival provides a powerful snapshot of the creativity and momentum driving the Illinois film industry.”
Diverse Lineup Highlights Regional Creativity
This year’s festival will feature a wide range of genres—including documentary, animation, drama, comedy, suspense, and horror—spotlighting both established creators and emerging voices.
Featured screenings include:
- Kelly Rundle and Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films, presenting “The Last to Fall from Hero Street,” the final installment of their acclaimed “Hero Street” documentary series.
- Matt Cichella, showcasing “The Middle Cross,” a dramatic short known for its character-driven storytelling.
- Michael Cook, debuting “Drivin’ Me Looney,” the latest animated episode from the retro-inspired “Chucky Chicken” series.
- Tim Troy, returning with “On Broken Glass,” a suspense-horror short emphasizing tension and atmosphere.
- Michael Flores, introducing “Peter,” a psychological horror short marking his festival debut.
Additional screenings will feature works from filmmakers Sarah Faulkner and Tessa Films.
Film Industry Drives Regional Economic Momentum
Beyond entertainment, the event underscores the expanding impact of the film industry on both the state and regional economies. Independent productions, digital media, and animation are increasingly contributing to workforce development, tourism, and broader economic diversification across Northwest Illinois.
