FRANKLIN, Ga. (Mar. 3, 2026) — Switzerland-based PFIFFNER Group, a global leader in power grid technology solutions, has broken ground on a new manufacturing facility in Franklin, Georgia. The company plans to invest approximately $18.5 million and create up to 60 full-time jobs in Heard County over the next decade.
Governor Brian P. Kemp, joined by local and state officials, celebrated the milestone as part of Georgia’s continued growth in advanced manufacturing and energy infrastructure.
“PFIFFNER Group joins a growing list of international business partners who choose Georgia because they know it is a smart investment,” said Governor Kemp. “This project strengthens our manufacturing sector while producing critical infrastructure that supports a reliable energy grid for years to come.”
Expanding U.S. Operations to Support Grid Modernization
Headquartered in Hirschthal, Switzerland, PFIFFNER Group designs and manufactures advanced solutions for transmission and distribution systems, power generation, and railway electrification. The company’s products are used globally by utilities and energy operators to measure, switch, test, and reliably transfer electricity up to 550kV.
The new facility, located at Franklin Industrial Park East on Highway 34, will produce:
- Instrument transformers for high-voltage substations
- Transformer bushings for manufacturers and utilities
Operations are expected to begin in 2027.
“PFIFFNER Group has chosen to expand in the United States in response to modernization and innovation across the electricity grid technology industry,” said Marcel Rüfenacht, CEO of PFIFFNER Group. “Georgia stood out for its proximity to customers, strong infrastructure, supportive business environment, and an ideal available site.”
Supporting Workforce Development in Heard County
The project will create employment opportunities across technical and engineering disciplines, including:
- Electromechanical assembly
- Machinists and machine operators
- Electrical and mechanical engineers
Local leaders emphasized the project’s long-term community impact.
“This partnership represents opportunity for our residents to work close to home and for our young people to build their futures here,” said Franklin Mayor Kevin Hayes.
Kathy Knowles, Executive Director of the Development Authority of Heard County, highlighted early collaboration between PFIFFNER, the local school system, and West Georgia Technical College to develop apprenticeship programs preparing students for high-quality careers.
Strengthening Georgia’s Cleantech and Energy Ecosystem
State and regional economic development leaders noted that PFIFFNER’s investment enhances Georgia’s position in energy, electrification, and cleantech manufacturing.
“Georgia’s relationships in Europe continue to attract world-class companies advancing energy and e-mobility technology,” said Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson.
The project was supported by the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Global Commerce team in partnership with the Development Authority of Heard County, Electric Cities of Georgia, Metro Atlanta Chamber, and the State of Georgia Europe Office.
“With this announcement, PFIFFNER joins metro Atlanta’s dynamic international business community,” said Katie Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “Their presence strengthens our growing cleantech ecosystem.”
Advancing Critical Energy Infrastructure
As grid modernization and electrification efforts accelerate nationwide, PFIFFNER’s expansion positions Georgia as a strategic hub for manufacturing critical components that support energy reliability, transmission efficiency, and long-term infrastructure resilience.
