FORT PAYNE, Ala. — Vinyl window manufacturer Phos Window is expanding its production operations in Northeast Alabama with a $21 million investment that will create more than 100 new jobs in DeKalb County, further strengthening the region’s growing construction manufacturing cluster.
The project, approved by the Fort Payne City Council with local incentives, will more than triple the company’s existing footprint near the Interstate 59 corridor. Upon completion, the facility will encompass nearly 140,000 square feet and support a total workforce of approximately 150 to 200 employees.
Company officials pointed to DeKalb County’s skilled workforce and strategic tri-state location as key drivers behind the decision to expand in place rather than shift production elsewhere. The region’s access to major transportation routes and proximity to Southeastern markets continue to position Fort Payne as a competitive hub for building products manufacturing.
“This investment reinforces DeKalb County as a proven location for advanced manufacturing,” said Brett Johnson, executive director of the DeKalb County Economic Development Authority. “Our workforce, logistics advantages, and regional connectivity continue to attract companies looking to scale.”
The expansion adds momentum to Northeast Alabama’s diversified industrial base, particularly within construction-related manufacturing. The region is already home to a range of producers across structural steel, concrete products, and infrastructure materials. Phos Window’s growth introduces additional specialization in vinyl window production, enhancing supply chain depth and supporting downstream construction activity.
State leaders say the project underscores Alabama’s continued competitiveness in advanced manufacturing.
“Phos Window’s expansion highlights the strength and adaptability of Alabama’s workforce,” said Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “This investment reflects the state’s ability to support modern manufacturing operations while driving growth in key sectors like building products.”
Local officials also emphasized the long-term impact of the project on the Fort Payne community.
“We appreciate Phos Window’s continued confidence in Fort Payne and DeKalb County,” said Mayor Brian Baine. “This expansion brings quality job opportunities and reinforces our position as a center for manufacturing growth in Northeast Alabama.”
Construction is expected to begin in the near term, with hiring to occur in phases as new production capacity is brought online.
With this investment, Fort Payne is poised to capture a larger share of the regional building products market while creating new career pathways for skilled workers across Northeast Alabama.
