Hidden Brook Sporting Club, a 285-acre outdoorsmen, women and youth destination, will be opening to outdoor enthusiasts in the upcoming monthson River Road in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, formerly known as the southern portion of Wilkes Industrial Park. At the onset, members and visitors will enjoy Sporting Clays, Five-Stand, Skeet and Trap, a 3-D Archery range as well as mountain biking and hiking trails that extend throughout the property. There will be a cozy Welcome building that greets guests along with a beautiful white party tent for hosting corporate gatherings and events.
Hidden Brook Sporting Club is owned and operated by Kelly and Tracey Dickson, who are both NSCA (National Sporting Clay Association) certified instructors and who have operated Sporting Clay Xperiences (www.sportingclayxperiences.com) from Mooresville, North Carolina since 2019. They bring their experience and expertise of clay target shooting, a 100-year-old sport, to this project where they will expand on what they know people want in order to enjoy clay target shooting, archery, nature, comradery; all while having fun and being safe.
“Being good stewards of the land and ensuring quality, thoughtful, intentional care is given to enriching these sports, growing their popularity and providing programs for youth, women and outdoorsmen that, in turn, bring a lifelong respect and gratitude for nature and outdoor sports, is key. The more beautiful and natural we keep the property, the better it is for our customer’s experience and the land as a whole,” said Kelly & Tracey.
“We’re thrilled that while we’re building out the overall project, people can enjoy our services and then quickly be in town to eat, drink, shop and get to know North Wilkesboro.” The project will progress in phases over the next seven years, bringing jobs, services and economic growth to the town.
The first phase will include a main Sporting Clays course, Five-Stand, Trap and Skeet field, Archery range as well as miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. A Welcome building will greet everyone as they arrive and be a place to check-in and out as well as purchase merchandise. Next to that will be a 100-person beautiful white party tent, so we’re able to accommodate corporate events, fundraisers and large groups. Food trucks and caterers will be on-site as we get operational so people can enjoy a bite to eat after being outside.
Phase Two will be the construction of a 7,000+ sf club house/pro shop/members club where everyone can enjoy social time before or after having fun. The second Sporting Clays course will be built. Additionally, a Corporate Event Center will be built so companies have a more private setting to entertain clients, employees and host larger events.
Future plans are to create a separate Private Event Center for weddings, community gatherings and special occasions. A restaurant and tiny house village for lodging are also in the plans and will allow visitors the opportunity to stay and play longer. “We will be a true Sporting Club,” said Kelly.
“We are very happy to welcome Kelly and Tracey to Wilkes County and especially North Wilkesboro! This is an exciting undertaking and has something for everyone! It will be a destination for gentlemen, ladies, and families. The town of North Wilkesboro has owned the land for a long time and we’re pleased to see a large portion sold and put to good use. Congratulations and best wishes to Kelly and Tracey!” said Marc Hauser, the Mayor of North Wilkesboro.
Wilkes County Commissioner Chair, Shirley Randleman expressed, “We are excited that Hidden Brook Sporting Club has chosen Wilkes County to expand their business. And, we look forward to working with Mr. & Mrs. Dickson and wish them success with their new business venture.”
Wilkes EDC President, LeeAnn Nixon shared, “It has been a pleasure to build a relationship and welcome the Dickson’s to Wilkes in the process of their search for the perfect location. It evolved into a keen focus on an excellent use of the southern portion of the Town owned land in North Wilkesboro. We couldn’t be more excited for this outdoor economy project that will provide a beautiful location for all ages, both locals and visitors, to enjoy learning or improving upon their outdoor sport skills or just enjoying the beauty of Wilkes.” Nixon continued, “A five year Economic Investment Grant was awarded by the Wilkes County Government and Town of North Wilkesboro at 80% of the projected increase in tax revenue. Their investment is projected to be $5,578,680, which is a combination of real and personal property improvements, and 13 new jobs who will join the Dicksons. We look forward to revisiting incentives in future phases of their planned success.
