Project to Create 82 New Jobs at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky as Part of $912 Million Multi-State Investment
FRANKFORT, KY — November 21, 2025 — Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) is expanding hybrid vehicle production at its Georgetown campus with a $204.4 million investment that will create 82 new manufacturing jobs, Governor Andy Beshear announced today. The project is part of a larger $912 million multi-state investment, supporting 252 new jobs across Toyota facilities in Kentucky, West Virginia, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.
“I want to thank the leaders at Toyota for once again making a significant investment into the company’s largest global manufacturing facility in Georgetown,” said Governor Andy Beshear. “The Kentucky-Toyota partnership has driven decades of success, and I am proud to see our relationship grow even stronger.”
Expanding Hybrid Powertrain Production
As consumer demand for hybrid vehicles accelerates, Toyota will install a new machining line for hybrid-compatible 4-cylinder engines at its powertrain facility, which currently manufactures up to 700,000 engines each year. Production on the new line is expected to begin in 2027.
TMMK employs nearly 10,000 team members and has seen more than $11 billion in total investment since opening in 1988—including nearly $2.9 billion during the Beshear administration alone.
“Customers are embracing Toyota’s hybrid vehicles, and our U.S. manufacturing teams are gearing up to meet that growing demand,” said Kevin Voelkel, Senior Vice President, Manufacturing Operations. “By adding more American jobs and investing across our U.S. footprint, we continue to stay true to our philosophy to build where we sell.”
A Legacy of Electrification and Advanced Manufacturing
The Georgetown plant has played a pivotal role in Toyota’s global electrification strategy:
- First U.S. facility to produce hybrid vehicles (2006)
- Selected to assemble fuel cell modules for hydrogen-powered commercial trucks
- Recipient of a $1.3 billion investment to support battery-electric vehicle production
TMMK has produced more than 15 million vehicles, including the Camry—America’s best-selling sedan. Current capacity includes approximately 550,000 vehicles and 700,000 engines annually, supported by a supplier network of more than 400 U.S. companies, including over 100 in Kentucky.
Strengthening Workforce & Community Impact
Toyota continues to expand educational and workforce development initiatives, including its $110 million Driving Possibilities initiative, focused on STEM learning, student support services, and closing opportunity gaps from early childhood through post-secondary pathways. Since establishing operations in Kentucky, Toyota has contributed over $164 million in statewide community investments.
Local leaders applauded the announcement:

— Joe Pat Covington, Scott County Judge/Executive
“Toyota’s investments continue to drive job creation, competitive wages, and workforce development across Georgetown and Kentucky.”
