Valley Cold Storage & Transportation, the area’s first purpose-built refrigerated warehouse system with facilities in Santa Teresa and Las Cruces, NM, is expecting to complete a major expansion to their Santa Teresa facility in the first quarter of 2025.
Owner Clay Bush says that the expansion will enhance services to the retail, food service, food distribution, and agricultural industries in Southern New Mexico, West Texas, and Northern Mexico. “Keeping perishable food items cold for distribution is vital to assuring freshness and quality,” he explains. “Valley Cold Storage is committed to expanding to meet the needs of area producers and transporters.”
The new expansion of the company’s Santa Teresa location will bring an additional 135,000 square feet to the facility with 21,000-plus new pallet positions. Once the project is completed, Valley Cold will encompass approximately 335,000 total square feet of storage capacity and boast a total pallet count of over 47,000 at the location. The expansion will also introduce convertible rooms with temperature control ranging from 35 degrees Fahrenheit to -15 degrees. The facility will also be able to provide blast freezing service, quickly cooling food to a temperature that’s safe for storage.
Valley Cold Storage and Transportation is a locally owned and operated business. With two locations strategically located along the I-10 and I-25 transportation corridor, Valley Cold Storage and Transportation is the ideal solution for short and long-term cold storage services.
With add on services like cross dock, USDA on site Inspectors and inspection services Valley Cold Storage meets and anticipates the needs of the growing border business.
“The region has needed these kinds of services and increased capacity for a while now,” said Bush. “Our team is receiving lots of interest in the expansion and the more established customers are already reserving their space although we are still accepting new customers.”
In 2019, Valley Cold Storage & Transportation completed construction on a 100,000-square-foot expansion to its existing 107,000-square-foot facility located in the Santa Teresa Westpark. The company invested $16.5 million, and 10 new jobs were created in the company’s workforce over three years. The company received up to $150,000 in Local Economic Development Act funds (LEDA) for the 2019 expansion. This program is offered to qualified companies interested in creating jobs in the state and is managed by the New Mexico Economic Development Department.
Valley Cold Storage and Transportation was established in 2008 with a 75,000-square-foot refrigerated warehouse in Las Cruces. In 2016, the company broke ground on a new facility in Santa Teresa to double its capacity.
